PHUKET: -- A postal worker was pulled to safety this morning after spending around three hours teetering at the edge of the roof of the Kaeha Rassada Credit Union building, some 40 metres above ground.

Police were called at around 9am by local people who said that an apparently distressed man was walking along a ledge, seemingly trying to get up the courage to jump.

Around the railing as an attempt to commit suicide.

The 35-year-old man was upset, police were told, about an argument he had had with his wife, and had been drinking solidly for the past three days.

“He’s been up there since 9 this morning,” said a Credit Union security guard. “We don’t know how he got up there.”

A variety of people tried to persuade the man to come into the building but this seemed onoly to make him more disturbed.

Finally, at around midday, Vachira Phuket Hospital psychiatrist Dr Tappana Sampatanarak managed to calm him down enough so that rescuers were able to stun him with a taser and pull him to safety.

Once inside, he was brought food and drink and talked with Dr Tappana until he could be persuaded to climb in an ambulance to go to hospital.
