30 Day Extensions For Visa Exempt Entries At Jomtien...5000 Baht

No offence to anyone, but take it if you want to, but if you cant afford Baht 5,000 how are you going to live for another month?

Stop making a big deal of it, get the extension and enjoy the extra time you have

Sometimes I wonder if people are really this dumb.

Agreed I dont really understand what you are aiming at but at the end of the day you either pay and get the visa or you dont. No amount of Rhetoric is going to alter that

You mean you should just give them extra money because you can afford it. Absolute nonsense.

No but every immigration office I have been to has the costs posted and they stick to that. If an agent is trying to rip you off dont use them. The choices are very simple

Just a question or two. Why use a visa agent , and pay more?

Is it true that immigration can charge what they like, even though the rules state 1900 baht?

I answer you the first question. I use a agent, because i don't want to waste hours in the overcrowded immigration. For this service, i pay 500 Baht more. In total: 2400 Baht. It's worth for me. Andi just got the confirmation, that my agent don't rise the price.

That's not about lousy 5000 bht it is about principle . Why I should pay for cigarettes 200bht a packet if somoene else paid 100 bht

For some maybe better to "put own head in the sand".......

Maybe checking the price and if too much go elsewhere

Went at 9.30, the office was mobbed and i was told to come back at 12.30. Did that and got my waiting number but they are still clearing out the morning backlog. By 1pm people being told to come back on Monday. BTW, whoever reckons the Russians have left Thailand is wrong! This place is heaving with them.

Certainly a crime committed by an officer is a big deal.

Rather give the money to an airline or honest enterprise, better than fueling corruption.

Good for you. Fight the good fight, etc., etc..

In the meantime, I 'donated' 600 baht to the lady at desk #2 at Jomtien and got a 16 day extension on my original, 30-day, visa exempt entry.

Sounds great, sell Thailand by the pound.

So you paid 2500 for your extension? Seems to jive with what they were telling me...5000 for 30-days.

How exactly did the merit making go down?

I had occasion to visit a local law office here on Phuket to have a document notarised. I asked, as an aside, how much they would charge to do the paperwork for my next 'O' visa. 25k came the reply. And no, this wasn't an 'off the peg' one. I'll do it myself coffee1.gif

You can stick to your guns and I would agree with that. However if it means you are not going to get the extension it wouldnt seem a very clever attitude to take albeit the correct one.

You can bitch and moan all you like but they have the power to issue or refuse the extension. I doubt if they care if you like it or not. So as I said in a previous post either pay or go you dont have any other choice

Its not about making a big deal out of it or if the OP can afford it. Its about the scam thats going on in an immigration office. Its corruption and its illigal. Its about the Government ( military junta) doing what is said it was going to do and rid Thailand of corruption. So get of your high horse and stop being a smart arse.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just came across this thread through an other thread.

I was at Jomtien Immigration Friday January 9

I arrived at about 2pm (14.00 o'clock), it was very busy, never seen it that crowded in 10+ years.

Anyway, got my paper for standard Tourist Visa extension.

Filled it in myself as always, got the copies.

At Immigration as usual the front information desk checks it quick and gives me a number.

96 people in front of me, WOW

Thank God for the nice bar/restaurant in the parking lot. Had a few beers and a meal.

Long story short, got my 30 days extension at 5pm (overtime for Immigration) for the always 1900 baht.

All was same as always, except way more busy, then I had ever seen.

I was just told by my school that i have to pay 3000 baht extra for "vip" service for extension of stay on my ED visa (5000 baht total). They told me (and showed copies) of people who went to Jomtien on their own last week and only got a 2 week extension, not the 90 day extension on their ED visa, and paid only 1900 baht. School tells me that this is a new immigration policy and not theirs, they are not getting any extra money for doing this, they dont even get the 100 baht that mysteriously disappears. I said i would go on my own, but was told for 1900 baht i would only get a 2 week extension and have to pay 1900 each time. Immigration is tell the school not to send individuals because they are too busy, but to have the school submit the paperwork and have the student go the next day, take a photo and pick up their passport.

Just to add an update. I went to Jomtiem on 22nd Jan for 30 day extension (had been on 20th but was told could not do until day visa finished, i arrived on 24th with and got usual 30 day entry).Arrived around 08:40, very busy, I already had all the paperwork, copies etc . After about an hour my number was called. The lady was very polite and said she could only give me 7 days.... I asked why and she said I had no visa, I said I came in on 30 days and you can now get another 30, she politely said if I paid 3000 baht she could do it. I could not seem to get an answer as to why, I said it should be 1900, Anyway, I needed the 30 so I just paid it. She called me over 20 mins later and showed me the stamp, was very smiley nd said if i needed more come back and she would give me another 7 days.

I figured it was just easier to pay and make sure I got it. Right or wrong ? I dont know, but I got what i wanted.

They probably are actually getting some proper visas now

Thanks for the update. A friend needs to get his "visa exemption" 30 day stay extended soon.

It sounds like the border run to cambodia for 2,200b is the cheaper method of getting a new "visa exemption" 30 day stay for a guy, from a G7 nation, that does this once or twice a year?

From today at Jomtien.

Two days overstay, fined accordingly to the law.

30 days extension to visa exemption, charged accordingly to the law.

No outgoing ticker or proof of residence needed.

No threatening forms about overstay.

Courteous and efficient service.

I sat in the Chon Buri immigration office for most of the day waiting for my 1900 baht 30 day extension and was successful. What I did notice were the visa company guys escorting their customers ahead of the line to get their photos taken with the immigration webcams. For the money, it's probably a really quick way to get an extension, not having to get a number and wait in line like everyone else.

Not sure when and what time you went but today the afternoon the average waiting time was perphaps 30 minutes from in to out.

I made the mistake of going in on a Monday, arriving after 8 am and the line was out into the street already. I got up to the front desk and got a 12:30 written on my form. I returned at 12:30 and waited there until after 5 pm. Three months prior I was in and out in 45 minutes for an extension, 1900 baht.

There have been reports that they won't do extensions ahead of time now so going on Monday may have been my only option anyway.

Yes, many Russians there, I've been wondering where they've been hanging out lately, other than the Night Market on Beach Road of course.
