Lite Beer
Master Poll: Police bribery scandals drop after NCPO arrivalBANGKOK, 11 Jan 2015 (NNT) – Community leaders have noticed a significant drop in bribery scandals among police following the arrival of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), according to a recent survey by Thai Researchers in Community Happiness Association (TRICHA).Leaders from 622 communities who took part in the survey disclosed that the problem of bribe-taking police officials most often heard of in their neighborhoods had sharply dropped after the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) took the helm of the country.Of all previous scandals concerning corrupt practices among civil servants, bribe-taking activities by traffic police and other types of police topped the list of complaints, with 84.5 and 75 percent respectively. They said the percentage of traffic police said to have been involved in graft prior to the NCPO’s emergence dropped from 56.8 to 27.7 percent. The percentage of other types of police who took bribes also fell from 47.4 to 27.6 percent. As for the level of corruption in the Thai society, 37.4 percent of the respondents said the current corruption problem is not that critical, whereas 21.3 percent said the problem is quite serious. The rest think the situation is very grave.Nearly 83 percent of the respondents view that the 12 national core values should be seriously adopted to solve the problem of moral and cultural decline. The remaining respondents are of the opinion that these core values have already been deeply ingrained in the society. In their opinion, understanding and learning about true democratic ideals, integrity, patience and good intentions for the public and awareness in thinking and doing things are the most difficult to practice, of all the 12 national core values. -- NNT 2015-01-11
clockman
But is it because, they are more careful. At hiding bribery. Now they know people are watching them?
Popular Post Robby nz
There have certainly been some top heads rolling in the police ranks and even some army officers who have gone down, then there was the 4 top judges. All that must be a good way of getting the message across to the lessor ranks that no one is immune. Lets hope the good work carries on till it becomes the norm to report any police or official that asks for a bribe, amend that to include those who offer bribes. However there does need to be stringent measures put in place to ensure things don't return to "Normal" once an elected Govt takes over.
Popular Post Thai at Heart
Absolutely not a scientific study whatsoever. Why don't they ask the community leaders who took a bribe since they appear to have such a finger on the pulse of corruption
FireMedic
This maybe true, but the linear transfers instead of jail time at Bang Kwan is not enough to dissuade them for much longer. I will admit it doesn't seem as bad, but people are still hesitant to make complaints against police. Traffic problems are just as bad, mafia presence and activities are still allowed....so it's not like it's going away.

Popular Post bangkokfrog
I can't understand why Thai Visa treats the "Thai Researchers in Community Happiness Association" as a credible news source. In this case, asking "community leaders" (many of whom will be getting richer by the minute because of their positions) about whether bribery scandals are increasing or decreasing beggars belief. However, we all know that there is no more bribery in LOS... because it is against the 12 values.

I think even the general knows that if thailand is to move forward this uniformed mafia have to go, its not possible to reform hardened criminals into a real police force, No need for him to be ashamed, they would,nt be the first country to kick them out and start again nor will they be the last, Reality is its difficult to describe the BIB at any level as a police force.
