How do you guys get insured if on a one way ticket? Most companies (if not all) in my country require a return ticket, unless you buy an annual policy, and in that case some of them even have a maximum number of days in a row for your trip. So the choice of companies is in this case is very limited. I know WorldNomads would fit my needs but I've heard some very bad stories on them.

Can anyone please offer some advice?

I don't know how long am going to stay in the LOS, can be 3 months or 2 years, I am sure some of you already had a similar problem.

Many thanks in advance.

I have always found that the small print says a return ticket from uk and back to uk is required, when i claimed foran emergency operation the other year, the first thing the insurance wanted was a copy of my itinerary .

i have looked into single ticket journeys and its not easy, i think a phone call, rather than online would be the answer, also insurance brokers/agents. I think i recall maybe columbas direct or staysure would have done it if i wanted,

Why not book a long term (maybe 11 month ) return ticket as they are sometimes cheaper than singles, get insurance to cover the whole period, if you don't need the full length of the insurance and go back earlier, then you have only wasted a little money, its better than being uninsured. I think about a year away is the max most companies go. as you mentioned some backpacker insurance are pay as you go so to speak, extendable. age will feature a lot in the price/availablity

Another option to consider is arranging insurance at the Thailand end. Pacific Cross Health Insurance (Thailand) offers 'Inbound to Thailand' travel medical insurance to residents of selected countries, which includes the elements of hospital/medical coverage, accidental death and disablement, and repatriation - this cover can be for visits of up to 6 months. An additional benefit of this option is that as long as your first port of entry is Thailand, the cover extends to all ASEAN countries at no extra charge - that includes Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam and Brunei Darussallam. You can get a quote for this by following the link to Inbound Travel Quotation.

Our associate company the offshore insurer Pacific Cross Insurance Company offers annual multi trip travel insurance and that is available through the website Click Travel Cover however the maximum duration of each single trip is 180 days so even then you would have to return to your country of origin after 6 months to 'reset the timer'.

The other solution for medical insurance if you plan to stay longer than 6 months is to take out a regular health insurance plan once you are here. You can arrange this through a Thai registered insurance broker (take care to avoid brokers located outside Thailand for a variety of reasons); and by following the links you can get a feel for the sort of cover available as well as obtain a quote for health insurance in Thailand.

I hope this helps.
