But we are not in Europe.

Where is the "Thainess"?

Why are we following Farang Democracy?

What do you think connects the painting of white zig zag warning lines on roads with democracy?

Do you think they had a vote which lines looked the nicest or were most effective?

We MUST have these white lines so the world will see that we are just as advanced and civilized as the west. We don't want anyone looking down on us because we don't look good !

There should be one global standard, for example like no entry, safer for everyone especially when they travel.

Thaivisa

You seriously need a huge facepalm emoticon for all the idiotic statements the police and generals-turned-politicians come out with. I mean really. This one is so stupid I can barely credit it.

before the facepalm action whoever came up with this needs to take their head outta their keester, just issue tickets & fine these lawbreakers, inforce existing laws, stop with the bribes, promote police that do the job.:-)

I can see it now. There will be Thai drivers zigzagging back and forth trying to stay between the lines. cheesy.gif.pagespeed.ce.HaOxm9--ZvISAZ3- alt=cheesy.gif width=32 height=20>

Disagree, they are not able to stay between the lines, rather zigzagging to keep the white line in the middle of the vehicle. Point the car down the road and follow the white line, no driving or thought process required.

Uh Uh update update In Thailand you drive on the left, unless you feel otherwise. It means that you drive ON the left points of the Zigzag. Opposite direction drives on the right zigzag points. Moto bikes in between. I hope this helps clarify this all in your mind and slows down the death rate.

Um not really to warn us to slow down . They are there to tell us not to park here as it reduces visibility around crossing áreas .

Both actually, and not to overtake.

Zig-zag lines to confuse drivers into not killing pedestrians

BANGKOK: -- Next time the roadway seems to go all wavy, it might not be your criminal drunkenness to blame.

To warn motorists to slow down before pedestrian crossings and hopefully reduce the numbers of road-crossers killed on their feet, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will paint intersections with wild zig-zag lines as a new traffic-calming measure.

Following numerous accidents, 15-meter-long, zig-zag lines will be painted before problem crosswalks, Suthon Anakul, Director of Traffic Engineering Office, said Saturday.

Suthon explained that the zig-zag lines would trick motorists to think the roads are narrower, causing them to slow down. [read more...]

Maybe if a drivers license real or fake is required hahaha and liability insurance uhhhhhh would reduce traffic

Can they explain where in the world do they have bicycle lanes painted on the sidewalks???

Folks, like/love it or leave it. Go home and look at your women hmmmmmmmmmm maybe u come back with a different attitude.

These markings might be common in Europe however something that is also common in European drivers but non existant in Thai drivers, is "common" sense. They have no respect for any of the road laws believe that the car is king. Until you change this attitude, placing brick walls around the crossing is the only thing that these idiots might stop for.

The Thai policeman doesn't even know the meaning of the zig-zag lines at zebra x-ings ... does not bode well

The first police that sees the lines will probably track down the responsible and try to extort them for messing up the road.

Seems like the Thai cops confused the British zigzag line on the side of the road (to remind you not to park there) with the general zigzag line in the middle of the lane that warns you to slow down:

What a waste of white paint.. Like they give a rat's <deleted> about any other road marking in this place.. Enforce the existing bloody laws!

They should use the white paint to redo all the zebra crossings here in Chiang Mai. They are totally disappearing.

If they are meant to stop parking, why are they in the middle of the road?

side and middle or else they will park in the middle to avoid being on the zig zag . TIT rolleyes.gif

Really...how stupid can you get? I really don't know where to begin.....did the gut go on holiday to UK?

Actually I don't have time at present to fully extoll my total and utter contempt for this measure....

Quite simply a waste of white paint

Zig zags have nothing to do with speed !!! They are markings to show no parking or stopping zones before crossings etc.

Moron should do a little reading before making plans.

more common sense for them to ignore and/or blame for their ignorance.

Impound their vehicles - then test their ability to drive - oh whats the point

they kill with impunity

they litter without thought

they have ruined their own country and will NEVER even know that they were and are at fault, its everyone else!!

let them live in their swill - once they all die off from malnutrition & poor hygeine, the entire region will be a cleaner, better place for the rest of us.

You don't seem very friendly , more of a Thai hater .

Geez ...what about some Driver Education followed up with decent red-light camera instant fines together with loss of license I'm sure that would slow them down!

I rather assumed that the only purpose behind zebra crossings here was to make you an easier target when you step onto rhe white bits at night!

To be fair, iconography does mean different things to different cultures.

What's -weird is they noticed these lines, but completely missed the cars stopping at zebra crossings.

They are intended to slow traffic pre-crossing and to control parking too close to crossings.
