Restoring my dtac simcard in Samui

Featured Replies

Is there an office in Samui where I can restore my dtac simcard? If not, is there one in Surathani?

I figure they don't restore the simcards in each dtac office, only in "big" ones.

DTAC are in Big C in the little shops opposite the cash desks. I have also seen a booth at Central Festival (not open until after 11 am.)

what's a registered number?

I'm not in Samui yet, so can't go and ask them.

How are you going to prove that the number you want to have restored has belonged to you and isn't someone elses expired number?

If you just bought a pre-paid sim in a store and have not gone to the dtac shop to register it under your name it's gone.

I can login to my cabinet at https://my.dtac.co.th/esv/login Does that mean, it's a registered number? But I don't remember if I bought this simcard with my passport.

Then you have a registered number.

For AIS 12call numbers they require that you go to the police station and file for the missing SIM and bring this document to AIS office and they'll give you a new SIM with same number. I'm sure it's same procedure for dtac as well. The number doesn't need to be registered to you.

Mole is correct on police report... it's the same with DTAC, so I was told....

But doesn't the number expire if not used after three months? Registered or not.... ?

It says it'll expire in 6 months, the last time mine number was used was in october last year - it's when I'd lost it.

How do I prove the police the number belongs to me? The thing is, I lost it in Indonesia, not in Thailand (and somebody had found it and made a call to a local Indonesia number, but nothing more - that's what I'd seen in my cabinet at dtac.com).

How do I prove the police the number belongs to me?

200 Baht should be all the proof they need.

For 12-call AIS will require a police report regardless if it's registered to your name in their system. I can confirm this because my number is registered to my name, but when I lost it a while ago, I was told that they'll need this document from the police anyway.

Only for numbers with monthly subscription, you can get a new sim with same number by just showing your ID, without the need of a police report.

It should be the same procedure for other phone providers as well.

If the number doesn't actually belong to you, and you file this police report, I believe it's a punishable offence similar to fraud and you will be prosecuted, if for example the real owner file a report to the police about this. If the number isn't registered to anyone, it should still be trivial to find out exactly who has been using this particular number, in a situation where 2 parties file a dispute of ownership of the same number.

I presume this is exact reason why the phone companies require this report. But IMO if a particular number is already registered with your name, they should allow one to get a new sim without wasting time on this report. But their rules are just anal like this.

Even though a number will automatically expire after it's not been used for an amount of time, this number won't be recycled into a new sim for a considerable amount of time. I'm not sure how many years it is. So if you file this police report, I'm sure they'll be able to re-instate that number. You'll have to talk to the phone company about exactly how long time you have before the number can't be reinstated.

For 12-call AIS will require a police report regardless if it's registered to your name in their system.

My wife got a new sim at the AIS store in Central last week without a police report, just ID.

She use 12call or monthly subscription?

I also has my 12call registered, but was told they needed the police report before giving me a new sim, despite it's already registered. They told me only numbers with monthly subscription, they can give with just showing ID.

If you have a registered number, you don't need a police report.

Correct, I lost my phone & AIS didn't require police report. I do have an account, post paid.

She use 12call or monthly subscription?

1-2-call.

Technically she did not loose it, it just could not be accessed.
