Phuket jet-ski operators complain about illegal interlopers

Imagine a Thailand where the men get themselves gainful employment and work hard for their country rather than sleeping, scamming and generally ruining the country's reputation?

Just imagine if the men in every other country could do the same also.

The discussion is about Thailand. There is no sense in comparing whatever happens, or does not happen in other countries.

But someone always must say that apeish behaviour happens all over the world. Which is true. It just occurs more often in this part of the world

What amused me was how he's trying to grass everybody up- “We believe there are some people in the Marine Office colluding with these illegal jet-ski operators,” Mr Surachai told The Phuket News...... I wonder who the "Club" give their little brown envelopes to?

Oh the irony lol

The shop owner is probably just upset that competition has taken away some of his customers, thus giving him fewer farang to bet up when they refuse to pay his ransom for alleged damage to his jet skis. I wish they were all out of business.

I managed a hotel on Bang Tao beach and had to deal with these guys. They were down right scary creatures. I hate to imagine how nasty these new guys are if the "Licensed" tthug needs to cry to the Government for help.

Time to set up a couple of farang friendly jet ski hire places. Service with a smile and no rip offs guaranteed. Just need to hire a couple of thai's to run the show on the beach and stay well in the background. Do the maths on how many customers you would have per day at 3000 baht per hour per ski. You would certainly pay the skis off in no time and make a very nice little profit. Much better than hiring motorbikes/cars.

Great idea, but you might find yourself a suicide victim hanging with hands tied behind back as in Koh Tao. If the Junta can't or won't control this then others have little chance!

IIRC the big boss of the Thai Marine office has been sacked and indicted for corruption.

Also Phuket's new Governor has told this local peanut from Marine Office 5 his time is coming soon (after he tried to salute the Gov.)

So where is that all going?

K Puricrap from Marine Office 5 is still around counting envelopes.

Yes, that is what Evilbaz said already.

Considering the widespread publicity on the scams and rip-offs I'm amazed any tourist hires one in the first place. They are in fact illegal and it is a fact that it is illegal to operate one without a Thai licence.

If people stopped renting these jet skis then they would simply go out of business and Phuket would be all the better for it.

it's indeed amazing people still rent these things, on top rental is very expensive.
