Fibreglass sports tops for pickups, not the quality they were.

Been having a look at some sports tops for my new Triton and must say pretty disappointed at what's on offer. My 10 year old D Max had a Carryboy lid and it was smooth as a baby's bum, all the new ones I've seen are full of ripples. In fact I spotted a new Isuzu yesterday with a brand new sports top that looked absolutely hideous, really cheap and nasty. What's happened, thinner fibreglass, less quality control? Certainly the prices haven't come down, still have to pay between 25-30,000 baht for one.

Any fibre glass that is to be painted can be worked on to smooth the surface out, thats a painter/body mans job.

Bought my lid 6 years back and it cost 20K with paint, but the paint shop did a shit job, they said thats the job you get for 20K all in.

I ordered a sports lid from Boy Sound in Pattaya, the price of 30,000 baht includes painting the same colour as the car. My complaint is that the fibreglass isn't finished as well as it could be as it's not perfectly smooth but has ripples in it. Obviously the factory just doesn't put the effort into the final finishing. This is the model I've ordered to fit my Triton.

But it shouldn't be the job of the paint shop to smoothen out the surface of a NEW lid, isn't it?

Like I said, the paint shop should prepare the lid before painting, thats what they "should" do.

They can get the thing as straight as a die if they want too...

Even new steel panels are at times not perfect, that is a paint shops job, body man prepares, painter paints.........thumbsup.gif
