UPDATE Huai Yai police face review over alleged drug-runner link Picture courtesy of Naewna Thailand's national police chief has ordered an investigation into past allegations involving an officer formerly attached to Huai Yai Police Station in Bang Lamung district, Chonburi. The review follows claims by alleged victims of Mr Pong, a suspect in a case involving five murders, rape and threats, that he had acted as a drug runner for a Huai Yai police officer. Speaking at Government House at 3.35pm on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, Pol Gen Kittirat Phanphet, the national police chief, said the matter was already being examined by the Chonburi Provincial Police commander and the Provincial Police Region 2 commander. Retired officer named in allegation Pol Gen Kittirat said the officer referred to in the allegations had retired from the police service in 2014. He said he was not certain of the officer's final rank or position because the retirement had taken place many years ago. The inquiry has been ordered retrospectively, meaning investigators will examine the alleged historical connection between Mr Pong and the former officer. The police chief did not provide further details of the claims or say how long the review would take. Mr Pong the suspect in a case concerning five deaths and intimidation. The alleged victims who spoke out said he had been used as a drug courier by the Huai Yai officer, according to the police chief's remarks.
