I remember a face of Jesus (Heyzoos?) that started appearing on the wall of a church in Mexico. Thousands of pilgrims and associated BS before it was realised that someone had whitewashed over a Willy Nelson concert poster.

That's the funniest thing I've ever read.

Only in Thailand.

The scams to come will blow your mind.

Are you really this uninformed or just the typical Thai bashing to to show some faux sense of superiority. The number of images of Jesus or the Virgin Mary appearing and being worshiped on everything from rocks to bread are countless and a common occurrence (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perceptions_of_religious_imagery_in_natural_phenomena#Christian_examples)

"Sampao Ngamjam, 54, said she spotted a mysterious white object under a tree ..."

There is your clue. The buried statue is probably being pushed up by growing tree roots - and NOT by some mambo-jambo miracle.

"At that rate, the ascension could see the statue levitate up to heaven as soon as next week."

I realize this is a satirical comment concocted by Coconuts Bangkok. Still: cheesy.gif cheesy.gif cheesy.gif

What a crock, forget the tree roots, how about a spade and and a strong arm. Uneducated people were referred to by WCFields as there is a sucker born every minute.

Not at all - you need to read more. Jesus has appeared on a tortilla (http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/religion/article/Man-claims-burn-mark-on-tortilla-resembles-Jesus-5950739.php), a billboard for Pizza Hut (http://www.nytimes.com/1991/05/25/us/atlanta-journal-a-sign-it-s-jesus-or-a-lunch-bargain.html), and a bowling alley chimney (http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/1987-06-24/news/0180030208_1_bowling-alley-country-bowl-chimney). There are reports of statues of Jesus and various saints crying blood in different parts of Europe. And I recall being in Ireland at the time, perhaps 30 years ago, when crowds gathered around a statue of Mary that was said to levitate and mover about. In the scheme of things, a statue rising from the ground is pretty impressive. But it's always more fun to crack on the Thais, right? Hmmmm...

As a long time atheist it amuses the he11 out of me! I just don't understand why people put any value on stupid things like Freaking....or Jesus....or anything else.

It was later revealed that the local amateur dramatical society were making a budget remake of "Planet of the Apes" so everyone went home.

Religion and such scams (i know that I am using religion and scam in same sentence) become important due people's desperation and sense of helplessness. Would you agree people's situation in many of these villages are desperate?

Is it still desperation when there's a spooky lack of urgency?

Okay, then yes.
