Hey guys i was wondering if anyone could point me off in the right direction i am looking to apply for an offshore job have looked into getting some kind of certificate but haven't found anything in Thailand yet. I am 25years old fluent in both languages but do not have a degree in any field. I have worked in bars, real estate, kitchens my whole life though. I am looking to go offshore just because i can't seem to find any decent pay onshore cause of my tattoos and appearance.

Simple.. go and attend Chula university and study earth sciences or petroleum engineering and in about 4 year will guarantee you a job with one of the operators in Thailand

Or alternatively go and study mechanical engineering or electrical

As you sit right now, honestly you don't have a hope in hell breaking into the oil patch

Thanks a lot. I have looked into studying at the universities here but I dont even have a high school qualification so it is very hard.

Well go back and do your high school and take it from there, I am not trying to piss on your plans, but I do work Thailand offshore and know exactly what it would take so trying to give you the reality

Another route maybe would be go to a trade school and do welding, if you get really good, the world could be your oyster

But if your looking for a quick fix forget it

If you want decent training that would lead to an internationally recognised certificate or qualification and you want somebody else to pay for this training, I think you would have a better chance of finding that in the UK.

Failing that, if you want to work here, you could earn 50,000 Baht a month teaching.

Which education system did you go through, British or Thai? From your writing style, I would guess British.

Best of luck. Report back in 12 months and update the thread.

Forget the North Sea, as Bp and Shell and all the Oil Related Companies are paying off people, and cutting costs..

You could always try a Catering company which deals with Oil Platforms off Thailand ???

Even if her did get a start in Thailand it would be as a " room boy" doing peoples laundry, washing the toilets, making peoples beds for Thb 25k/m and no career prospects

If he want to go that line, catering school become a chef and ultimately camp boss

welding and metal fabrication is an excellent idea, No quick fix but a good skill you can focus on. As room boy or catering crews are not much of an option, pay is low.

We had a mechanic on our rig working as a room boy.. he hated the job and soon quit to go work for more money back in town.

Its an option, as whats his options on the Mainland, or even in ''Bangkok'' ???? limited to say the least..

even with his Good Comand of English, that wont open any doors.... which actually it should, as Thais struggle to speak English..

even working in the Catering Department is a start, and who knows where that could lead him,

worth a try in my books..

There are some ROV courses in the Phillippines that would get you a cert. Would not guarantee you a job but if you did get on it would pay nice. About 300,000 Baht for the course though. Looks like a bit more this year. Subnet Services. They have UK and Phillippines offices. Take a look. With the dual launguages it might get you in the right door. Hope this helps. Regards, Dave. Get after it, whatever you decide. Only thing that is stopping you is you. Tattoos ne er kept me from getting work.

Although not directly in the ROV game, know a lot of ROV guys, and one suspects they would be saying don't waste your money, as far as I am aware, these days they are looking for people who have backgrounds as time served HV electrical/ electronics guys or hydraulics backgrounds before doing the ROV training

With no trade behind him, not even a highschool certificate any ROV school which would take him would not be worth going to.
