I've just had a short trip out of Thailand, returning to activate the second entry of my tourist visa. As my scheduled departure is in April, I'll have to do an extension.

I believe I've read that one can get that extension of permission to stay up to 45 days before the current stamp expires? My current permission to remain is March 21st, so according to that 45 day idea, I could apply for my extension on February 4th.

The reason I'd like an early extension, is that I also need a Letter of Residence for selling my motorbike, and I believe those are only valid up until the final day of one's permission to remain. So, the longer time I have in order to expedite that sale, the better.

Comments on validity here? 45 days before permission expires? Letter of Residence needed for motorbike sale? validity only up until expiration of permission to remain, including extension?

Thanks to the knowledgeable experts.

45 days early for a tourist extension does seem early, but will depend on the immigration office.

Don't know if a letter of residence is required to sell. Many immigration offices will not issue a letter of residence unless you are doing 90 day reports, which you as a tourist not do. In that case you have to get one from your embassy.

But check first if you need one at all, which again might very well depend on the land transport office you use

Thanks, Mario.

I use Map Tha Phut immigration office, and they're usually very good. I had read that one could get an extension up to 45 days before the current permission to stay was due for expiry. But I don't know if Map Tha Phut is one of those offices which will do it early.

Again, I'm pretty sure I've read that selling a vehicle or motorbike requires the appropriate forms plus a letter of residence. I know Map Tha Phut will do the letter, but not sure if they'll do it for a TV.

My local LTD is Rayong, and they've been quite good when I've needed to do my annual insurance and registration for the bike, but don't know about what they'll require for selling it, other than from the information I've gathered on these forums. They were excellent a number of years back when I needed the one year and then five year driver's licence.

I've been on an O-A for a number of years, and have only used the double entry TV this year.

No, they're not.
