Koh Tao mayor blasts UK media's 'negative reporting'

Police have yet to determine the cause of death for Annesley, who was discovered dead in her bungalow on 21 January. Police did not publicly confirm her death to the press until 23 January, and were quick to stress that Annesley "was not murdered."

Angered???...Gee I wonder why?...Time to wake up Mr Mayor and stop your crying

The British press have got it wrong again (as they did with Hannah and David's murder).

The murdered woman's family have stated that she died of natural causes and not under suspicious circumstances!!

If they (the UK gutter press) had written about there being a Mafia culture on Koh Toh then fair enough BUT linking this death to Mafia gangs is bang out of order and I don't blame the Mayor for being enraged about shoddy/outrageous reporting.

Perhaps you can clear something up for me? The family stated she died from natural causes based on the fact the tweeted that she'd bought some antibiotics and was never heard from again, correct? So who told the family their daughter died from natural causes? In the article it says "Police have yet to determine the cause of death for Annesley". Perhaps you can clear this up for us please?

It was the FCO who told the family she had died of natural causes. Of course the FCO has a "don't rock the boat" attitude. Mustn't jeopardize trade deals, eh?

If that is true then this needs addressing pretty promptly. How could the FCO tell Christina's family their daughter died of natural causes before any autopsy had taken place? Is this a fact? And who told the FCO? What the <deleted> is going on?

Again, I would like to point out Lucky11(. Brother of the mayor?) said "the murdered woman's family have stated that she died of natural causes"- note that he said she was murdered, not that she passed away!!!

I'm baffled. How can you NOT have negative news coverage when young tourists are being murdered, and with this recent death no information on the circumstances of her death have as yet been released. Oh sorry this may be too logical.

Another one bites the dust!

All I know is that I wanted to go there for a dive trip in February and my Thai Wife who is pestering me for a holiday will not step foot on the island.

As a test, I said, "That is the only place I want to go."

She said "OK, then no holiday this year."

Period. Full stop. End of story for that island.

(Found a better island so we are on the way)

Well this really gets to the guts of the story.

The foreign tourist/resident will go,

but his Thai wife adamantly would rather stay home than risk going to Koh Tao.

Mr. Mayor, it is not simply the British press giving your island a bad rep,

but the basic perceptions of the average Thai woman, now are totally

wired against Koh Tao. And that can NOT be laid at the writing of foreign press,

nor foreign online bloggers or chat groups. Seems this is quite well known

in several levels of Thai society, with no aid from outside.

We don't yet know what a toxicology screen says.

If someone 'date rape drugged her', on top of alcohols and Tramadol for instance,

that might have been enough to kill her, that becomes unintentional manslaughter.

If there is this type of drug in her system but not found in her room,

plus ones found in her room, this might indicate foul play.

And would mean there was no need to physically abuse her,

since she would have been out of it prior to passing away.

We likely will not know, partly from the multi day delay of getting her

to autopsy blaming lack of boat transport.

The pick up truck transporting the corpse is labelled KOH TAO RESCUE ...

I'm sure that the bitter irony of that last word is not lost on anyone here. The mayor would probably call it a 'positive approach' though...

Is this Thainess? Look Mr Mayor if it looks like a Duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck It is a fricken Duck. When you can do a DNA test with results with in 24 hours, Find a person hung with hands tied behind back and rule it suicide, Why can't an autopsy be done in 2 weeks with results posted? Or is it getting harder to find lies to protect the guilty? Welcome to Frangness we can see through your lies and won't be quiet about it any longer. I hope you little rathole Island dies and blows away KARMA rules.

The one major conspiracy we have going on here is the determination by some to silence any criticism however just and proven of the deaths in Koh Tao, the major of KT has now joined in the chorus to keep the heat away, its too late, yes there's now a media frenzy and I wonder why:

"A media feeding frenzy is intense media coverage of a story of great interest to the public."

Very interesting development here. If this paper is to be believed and the writer not imbelishing then it could well be that the mother of the latesr Brit to die on Koh Tao is also questioning the conduct of local officials. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/mother-of-backpacker-who-died-on-thai-island-the-last-words-we-said-were-i-love-you-10001861.html

Incidentally it is a farce that people still visit there considering all the merited negative press lately

z42, thanks for the link indeed interesting and thought provoking too.

Having read the article it is indeed an interesting turn of events regarding the latest known tourist death on Koh Tao.

It may well be worth considering the girl her political background and the level of that background. There is a possibility that her family are well connected politically thus a little more effort and a few more string may well be pulled to expose the whole truth about this tragic death.
