My friend was in a BKK hospital today and saw a farang yelling at the reception.

"You have to learn english, this is not a way to help patients!!"

"How can you not learned english and work here?"

"If you want more customers you better learn english"

And so on, very loud.

The farang was very angry and lost his temper. I can totally understand it, can you?

Of course you can totally understand it, you've only been in Thailand a month and still think you're back home.

"How can you not learned english and work here" cheesy.gif

Yeah my mrs had the same problem in the UK the other year, none of the staff spoke Thai, whats the world coming to.

If your "friend" had gone to an international hospital it wouldnt have been a problem.

He did have adequate insurance didnt he?

If someone is going to an International Hospital it would be fair enough to expect service fitting of international standards which includes mutual understanding between those working there such as Doctors (and those others in direct contact with the patient) and the patient - For the most part English has taken the form of the common language denominator... or as its more readily known... CBL (Common Business Language)....

However, if someone is going to a Hospital which makes no international claim then it wouldn't be unusual to expect that finding someone with whom to communicate in any language other than Thai may become more challenging...

Regardless - someone loosing their temper with staff for such an issue is beyond reasonable behaviour.

Personally I've found that every hospital I've been to in Thailand there has been someone with adequate English. And that's including some rural ones. Perfect English no, adequate yes!

And I agree losing your temper gets you no where!
