Mornin all.

I have my original 1 year probationary driving license. My renewal, upgrade to 5 year license is due when I'll be out of the country for a few weeks. Should I apply for the 5 year license prior to leaving LOS, or can I wait till my return ? I would prefer to take care of before I leave.

I'll be doing this at Sakon Nakhon. Any advice & tips much appreciated. Any first hand info on what documents will be required also much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers..... Mal.

no, wait for it to expire, or you will get another one year licence.

same docs as before, doc letter, proof of address from immigration, one set for each licence can use copes, one set of forms for each licence,

Then if 2 people are posting you can renew to a 5 year licence before the 1 year licence expiry date, then things must of changed. maybe some offices maybe all.

I held mine 11 months 3 weeks

And you got a 5 year ?? Or another 1 year and up to your following birthday ??

As said, thats always been the case the provisional must be held for a full 12 months, anything less and you have not done the full year driving to qualify for a 5 year.

Either you got a 1 year or they made a big change to how they do the system.

Went to do mine (1 year to 5 year) day before expiry. Told to return in 2 days. Did so driving there on an expired, and therefore invalid license. TIT.

My 1 year was 11 months & 3 weeks as of this morning. Took me 1 hour and 5 minutes to renew to 5 years & 8 months to the following birthday. Happy!!! Mai Pen Rai

Looks like it might be a bit of a lottery.... depending where you go to upgrade.

Cheers..... Mal.
