Retirement Ext and work permit

Featured Replies

Hi, a quick question ,I have been on a Retirement Ext for Three years now,I have been offered a position in managing a restaurant here in Bangkok,I realise I cannot work on the Retirement Ext. What do I need to do to obtain a work permit ?

Change your "visa type" to a non imm B or if your married to a Thai national an "O "

Most work permit offices will not accept an application for a work permit with an extension or visa based upon retirement. You will have to go out for a tourist visa or a visa exempt entry to apply for the work permit.

Then after you have the work permit application approval letter and documents from your employer you can go out to a nearby embassy or consulate for a non-b visa.

Thanks for the prompt reply ,my ext expires in March ,so let it expire ,leave the country ,enter on visa exempt ,apply for permit ,leave the country go to thai embassy/consulate somewhere, apply for non imm b visa ? Do you have to do visa runs on an non imm b or just 90 day reports ? My current ext {retirement) is based on non imm o.

You can get a one year extension if your employer and your job can qualify for it. For most western countries it requires a salary of 50k baht to get the extension.

If not you would have to go out after your work permit is issued and get a multiple entry non-b visa in Penang and make border runs every 90d ays.
