Thailand
Just wondering why aren't all former Thai Prime Ministers impeached for not stopping corruption if you are going to impeach Yingluck for failing to stop corruption? Have to start somewhere... :-) No doubt quite a few in the current bunch up for it in the future now the "system" allows it. But of course that may well be changed! NextStationBangkok
It seems that there is cyber law on the legislative table in Thailand, that allows police to strip search your computer, phone, emails, chats, blogs, what ever you type ? Is it safer to write something in Thaivisa anymore ?, or just close our profile and leave ThaiVisa. Similar to Arab countries, are we safe to open the mouth only in front of the dentists ? Diplomatico
The Shinawatra's have just scored a goal in the international court of public opinion. More like the ruling military junta just gave up an own goal. Edited January 28, 2015 by Diplomatico
yellowboat
These military "attitude adjustment' chats pretty much cast doubt over the junta. Not a government persiding over a happy population.

Ricardo
He said his team was especially concerned by the criminal charges pressed against Yingluck, and asked the junta to grant the former PM amnesty. "If there is no amnesty, reconciliation will fail," Singhtong said. "if there is no amnesty, reconciliation will fail" To some that might read like a fairly-unsubtle threat, give the former-PM a 'free pass' on criminal charges, or else ? One can only wonder what the back-channel deal is, between her brother and the military, and whether it protects her from anything more serious than impeachment & a 5-year-ban ? Perhaps the summons/meeting was to remind him of the terms of any such agreement, which he might not have been fully-aware of ?

halloween
"reconciliation will fail" a not so subtle suggestion that Thaksin will let loose his mercenaries again. I hope the pay is good. What was the death bonus last time? Bt 500 That was the daily rate. Trying to remember how much Yingluk paid out (with other people's money) for each dead red 'democracy warrior'. robblok
Sounds like the guy started to treat to let the red terrorist of their leash. The junta told him not to do threaten the judicial process and intimidating the judges. Told him that these things might have been ok in the past when the PTP was in still in power (they loved bombs deaths and threats) but not anymore now there is finally peace. This all would never have happened if Thaksin had not included himself in the amnesty. That brought all the people onto the streets against this convicted criminal, and brought forth the doom of the previous administration. It was all self inflicted. Of course setting the red terrorist upon the protesters did not leave the army with much choices as to step in.

mca
I reckon they should make the meetings sound a bit more warm and fuzzy by saying "Khun XXXX was invited round for some Mr. Kipling's and a nice pot of tea".

robblok
Here is a fine example of a "military style" democracy in action... I prefer it over all the deaths of the protesters by red terrorists. I prefer it over the constant threats at independent organisations by the red shirts. Now this guy is trying to threaten the judiciary again. "no reconciliation if there is no amnesty" in other words if you don't let her go we will release our war dogs again.
bernd1616
The guy, during martial law, rattied out a high rank military official. Be careful, the army has specia powers. This is Thailand not the US. you mean for sure he could be lucky for not living in the terror state number one in the world, the usa with a goverment killing thousends of inocent people year for year all over the world

Baerboxer
Attitude adjustment = the end of Freedom of Speech. I'm not sure they ever had free speech. Over use of draconian defamation laws and writs flying round all over. There still seems the very strong social fear of being heard to say something inappropriate that pervades all the classes bar the elite; the fear that something bad will happen with no recourse if it does. Briggsy
Chalerm could use some attitude adjustment. What ever happened to Chalerm anyway? Have not seen or heard any noise from him in quite a while.I guess THAK is going to have to hire a new lead lawyer for dear sister now. This one is probably scared stupid after today. Chalerm owns many businesses and income streams, some legal, some semi-legal, some illegal. He has no political ideology that I know of. He buys into senior political positions, political alliances in order to further his business operations and consolidate his status so his operations are not subject to competition or scrutiny from the authorities. He has a long-standing antagonistic relationship with the military which led him to living several years outside of Thailand. There is zero mileage in him opposing the military when they are in the ascendency. He is an opportunist involved in organised crime not a democracy campaigner.
