Racy Angkor photos may be fakes: official

Featured Replies

Skilled “experts” are being called in to examine the veracity of risque photos depicting a topless woman posing on Angkor temple ruins, according to the agency tasked with managing the temple complex.

“We are analysing the picture to identify where it was really taken, but we need skilled people to do it,” said Kerya Chau Sun, spokeswoman for the Apsara Authority.

The photos circulating on Facebook since Saturday are marked with a tag for “WANIMAL”, a company Apsara alleges has taken similar nudes against other exotic backdrops.

“We saw photos of the same lady at the Great Wall in China and the Williamsburg Bridge in New York, so we wonder if the background is fake,” she said, adding that a lawsuit might be filed if the photos are real.

The authority is also searching for the photographer who took the “insulting” partial nudes, according to the spokeswoman.

On Monday, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts issued a statement joining Apsara’s denunciation of the photographs and committing to search for the offenders.

While the fanfare around the topless Apsara images continues, another more explicit set of pictures has surfaced.

In 2013, self-proclaimed “World’s #1 Art Nude” magazine Volo featured a scantily or in some cases not-at-all-clad Russian Playboy model draped over the Angkorian temples.

Chau Sun said Apsara was not previously aware of the second set of racy photos, but is now investigating.
