My non 'O' Visa (marriage) is expiring soon. The enter before date is 15 March 2015. I have the following questions and would appreciate your kind advice

1. If I go to Cambodia say on 10 March and come back to Thailand on the same day, will I get 90 Days of stay ?

2. Instead of crossing the border, can I apply for extension of stay at the Bangkok Immigration ? If yes, how many days of extension can I get and do I need to provide the 400k income proof ?

Many thanks for your help

Hi paz, thank you very much for the super fast and helpful response.

If I get 90 days from the border, ie using option 1 , can I apply for another 60 days extension at the bangkok immigration when it is close to 90 days ?

You can apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage during the last 30 days of any of the 90 day entries you get from your visa.

You will need 400k baht in a Thai bank in you name only for 60 days or proof 40k baht income.

Edit: You can get a 60 day extension of any of your 90 day entries including the last one you can do in March.

Hi ubonjoe, if I get 90 days from the option 1 above, I can still apply for 1 year extension with 400k in the bank even when my visa has already expired by then.

Am I correct ?

Also, can I apply during the last few days or I have to apply 30 days in advance ?

Your visas validity has nothing to do with applying for an extension of stay only your permit to stay matters.

You can apply for the extension up to 30 days early or as a late as the last day of your permit to stay.

Just 1 more question, the extension will be based on the last day of the permission to stay date or based on the date of application ?

permission to stay date

Hi. Good information here thanks. I will be going to Bangkok Monday to get the 1 year extension based on marriage. I have the 400 k in the bank and it's been there for months. How long does the process take? I have read it can take up to a month for you to get the extension. If that's correct then my visa would have run out as I am applying in the last 30 days of it. Any help appreciated.

After your application has been accepted and the 1900 fee paid you will be given a under consideration stamp with a report back date 30 days from that date.

The stamp allows you to stay in the country until your application is approved.

When go back on the report back date they will stamp your extension in your passport.

You get a 30 day under consideration stamp.

This becomes your new permission to stay.

Thanks Ubonjoe and Lite beer. Finally (I think) once I have provided the bank statement which I assume I do on the date of application. Can I take the money out of the account?

The reason I ask is that I need to make a large purchase after applying which will take me below the 400 k mark. I can't think of a reason why I would have to prove my finances again. But you guys seem to be in the know :)

1. yes

2. With 400K in bank or 40k montly income, 1 year. Without, 60 days.

How much does this extra 90 days cost.

It does not cost anything more than going out of and re-entering the country to get any of the other 90 day entries does.

You should leave the 400k baht in the bank until you have your extension stamp. There have been reports of immigration contacting the bank to check that the money is still there as part of the approval process.

Yikes!! Will have to sit down with a calculator and see what I can do instead then. Think my only concern for a succesful application is that it mentions getting a letter saying the funds came from abroad. Which they certainly did but I used a money transfer company instead of bank to bank. But that hopefully won't cause much of an issue.

There is no need to prove the money came from abroad.

The bank letter just verifies the balance.

Make sure the bank book and letter show the same amount.

Personally I usually take some money out after application is accepted.

Up to you if you want to risk it.

They understand you have to live during that month.

Do you have all the other documentation needed?

They only ask for the letter proving the money has come from abroad if doing a conversion to a non immigrant visa.

They do not ask for it when you apply for an extension of stay.

You two are the gurus I hope thai visa are paying you for your knowledge :-p so when they say bank letter. They mean

Dear Sir

Matt has has x amount for x number of months with us or just a printed signed bank statement?

The money I am taking out is for a guest house the wife is taking on in Koh Lanta so if your ever in the area drop me a message and you can stay on me as a thank you for your assistance.

The letter just states the balance on the day it is printed.

Your bank book will show how long it has been in the account.

Don't forget to take your Wife on Monday as she also has to fill forms in.

Thanks Joe, so if i go out on my last (15 mths) does this mean that i can extend a further 90 days. I really need to extend the last entry for at least 30 days. Many thanks for your help.

You have to the do the last 90 day entry on or before the enter before date on your visa.

After that it is not possible to do another one.

If you need more time after that last entry their is no extension possible other than a one year one (with financial proof) or 60 days if you are married to a Thai.

If you enter before the expire date on the visa you get another 90 days.

You can also apply for 60 days extension of stay at immigrations based on marriage.

From Police order 138/2557

2.24 In the case of visiting a spouse or children who are of Thai nationality:

Each permission shall be granted for no more than 60 days.

1. Application form.

2. Copy of applicants passport.

3. Copy of household registration certificate.

4. Copy of national ID card of the person having Thai nationality.

5. Copy of a marriage certificate or copy of a birth certificate.

Thank you guys.Looks like i will have to go back to Brisbane for my next Non 'O' when this one expires on 7th of may. Could have really done with those extra 30 days, but it would work out too expensive. Good luck to both of you. The job that you are doing for 'dumb nuts' like me is fantastic. thumbsup.gif
