Sorry if I offended you in my original post. Maybe I should have put Thai partner in your case? Thats ok with me as I'm not homophobic.

Amazing as it may seem to you, not everyone came here for sex.

It never ceases to amaze me how often those who were assume others are the same.

No mention of the cost of living?... it's funnier with the temples or the sexptas of course tongue.png

I rent a little house/bungalow with two rooms two air cons, a terrace, a garden with plenty of banana trees smile.png... 10,000 Baht

In my country totally impossible facepalm.gif for this price maybe a 20/25 sqare meter studio!

I forget to say 5 minutes from the beach, in south of France same little house on the sea side I guess 1500 euros monthly 18,000 euros a year compared to 3,000 here in Thailand difference 15,000 euros a year for rent only

Why spend so much?

My studio apartment is just 3870B/month, including electric & wifi. My King sized bed is big enough for me & two Thai girls.

I have A/C, refrigerator & a slow-cooker to make delicious beans. The central market has avocados for 60B/kilo---something you can't buy in The South.

And when Smoke season comes from Hill people slash & burn the forest, I can hop on a 1800B flight to BKK and then a cheap train ride to Cha-am, where I can rent another cheap room for 3000B/month (I'm guessing fan only at that price).

As far as being 5 minutes from the beach, that means you're several kilometers inland? How often do you go to the beach?

I mean the actual beach. Into the water?

If you're like most people in California, you never go into the water. And maybe on the sand only once a year, 555

Frankly, I go more often than that living in the mountains...

I guess this is too difficult of a question for most so far. The question isn't about why you visit here.

Most of us came here as a visitor at first, surely?

.

As far as Thais are concerned, you most certainly still are one.

I'm cool with that.

Can't vote......Not enough options.

Indeed, none of the presented options are relevant to me.

Cost of living and climate are the only ones for me.

Extremely high taxes, high rents and dreadful wheather in my northern European home-country.

Very poor poll question.

There are as many reasons as there are TV members. And for longtime visitors and long-time residents, I suspect that the reason morphed over time.

Whereas the first time for me was a Thai girl I met in the US, subsequently it was sex, and eventually, it just became the feeling I got as soon as I stepped off the plane in to that sickly sweet and humid air, the ride from Don Muang, and the freedom to go where I wanted, when I wanted, without the oppressive 'shoulds' and 'shouldn'ts'.

After moving there, the pace of life, the challenges of getting things done the Thai way, and the little surprises of daily life were just of the few reasons I stayed.

If not for my own changing priorities, and the increasing government bs, I would still be there.

Can you make this one of the poll's multiple choice answers?

I rest my face.

Not really, but it is pretty obvious. The question is in general and asks the main reason 'visitors' come as opposed to why it is you stay or visit. In relation to the op, the answer would be blindingly obvious despite it not being the reason I'm here.

Excluding myself , and considering a large portion of visitors are , at the moment , Chinese and Russian , i guess its mostly cheap holiday packages and shopping. Although i cant figure why the Chinese would come for shopping . And it looks like the Russians are going to lose out on the shopping sprees as the Ruble loses value . I think the Russians love the warm weather and the beaches. I know on Phuket they spend a lot of time getting warm and wet at the beaches. The Chinese however seem to prefer the comfort of an air conditioned coach and to be ferried on mass in their matching pyjama suits to shopping centers and then to a nice Thai massage where they can be charged sometimes 3-4 times the actual price .

And the winning prize of not needing a brain transplant goes to you.

What is it on this site and that applies in the politicial threads as well that people can not read the OP, understand what is being asked, discussed or presented and post intelligent, informative and meaningful responses?

Agree it is a leading poll that only has one obvious answer.

I first came for work/education. But the poll didn't ask that, it asked why visitors come to Thailand.

So I still got to vote that they mostly come for the nightlife, partying and sex. smile.png

In reality though, it depends a little on the nationality and demographic of the visitor. But that's too complex for a poll, so sex it is.

And in all honesty, I can't think of any other country where I'd rather go do pay for sex. There are quite likely cheaper places, but when you add in all factors including convenience, cost/value, safety, fun, variety, catering to the preferences of specific nationalities, attitude, GFE-opportunities for hopeless romantics, and 'other-things-to-see-and-do-when-not-having-sex', then it must be said that we're in the BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD when it comes to commercial sex.

Thailand is the world's premier sexual convenience store, the Disneyland for adults, and long may it remain so!

(There. Discussion was encouraged it said in post #2. wink.png )

I moved here originally because of it WAS a good country and easy for open a business and + I liked the people.

NOW.. I don't like thailand and I only stay here because of my other half. Thailand are becoming more and more of a headache. Everytime i hear something in the news is always something stupid and, i feel that instead of making the country better for everyone it's becoming worse and worse for everyone!

I have to say I think many of you are in a similar situation, and feel the same way .. If not because of the fact my girlfriend is a career women (banking world) I would have been gone with her already.

How come that so many people ticked culture, temples and religion. What sort of culture or religion? You can't be serious, can you?

Obviously the sex culture, then visit a temple and ask Buddha for forgiveness.

Repeat the following day.
