I need to get hospital insurance for my Thai partner to avoid any large un-expected bills. Has anyone got any knowledge of the Thai social security that covers treatment in Hospital. My partner used to work and was covered by this scheme when she worked but since she has been with me she has not worked and not paid into the system so we have to pay for hospital treatment. Is it possible to pay into the scheme if she is not working. Yes we can get more expensive private medical insurance but this does not cover all the other benefits that are included with the Social Security. Also is there a waiting period before coverage starts after starting to pay into the scheme again. Thanks in advance.

Government hospital is free, only downside is a bit of queuing.

No need to pay for anything.

Work SS insurance is about 300-400bht per month and she could have kept paying it herself when she stopped working.

Probably too late now, think you have 6-9 months after stopping work, when you can revive it yourself.

Why didn't she tell you earlier?

Why doesn't she like the government hospital?

Yes, you can continue paying on your own to stay in the SS system after losing eligibility through employment.

432 baht per month to pay on your own. You have 6 months coverage after your last payment.

After that, you have to start again through employment.

If the loss of eligibility was recent, contact the SS Office about signing up to pay on your own. It's very easy to do.
