I can only stay in Thailand 6 months out of the year with the double entry tourist visa. I'm planning on moving to Cambodia for at least 6 months out of the year. The medical care is not good there. If I needed any emergency treatment then I would need to leave the country. If I came to Thailand would I get a 15 day entry visa or simply not allowed in the country?

There is no limit on how long you can be in the country on tourist visas.

If you are from a country that gets visa exempt entries you would get 30 days by air or 15 days by land unless you are from a G7 country that gets 30 days.

Really? Would they not refuse you after 2 or 3 in a row?

You wrote your post like you thought that there was a 6 month limit on how long you could be in the country on tourist visas.

They only limit the number of back to back tourist visas you can get from one embassy or consulate. At Vientiane it is normally 3 back to back 2 entry visas.

I'm not OP, but cheers, cleared up the way I read it. I'm on my second tourist visa now, had a few exemptions before, is it worth trying for a third or are there likely to be problems if I get some kind of stamp? I'm planning on studying, but ideally I'd wanna wait until it's all settled in regards to the ed visa and school situation so a third TV would be ideal, but I don't wanna push my luck and be screwed after it.

It depends upon where you go for your visa. As I said they only count the ones they issue and then only back to back one at the embassies and consulates in neighboring countries.

You can get a 2 entry in Vientiane or Savannakhet without a problem.

The only stamp done is for the location where you get it. Vientiane just does one saying you will need proof of residence and financial proof for the next one.

Cheers, financial proof of enough to last the length of the visa? Is there a standard amount or something you'd have to show?

The MFA rules for visas states 20k baht when you apply.

It should be enough to live on here and come from abroad to prove you are not working here.

Is 20k the same as 20,000 baht?

So I can alternate from gettig a double entry tourist visa in Vientiane and in Savannaket and stay in Thailand indefinitely?

Yes 20k is 20,000.

Not sure that going between the those 2 locations would work since Savannakhet is under the embassy in Vientiane.

Going to a different country would be best. Perhaps a 3 entry in Bali by showing 3 tickets 90 days apart out of the country would be best.

What if I alternated from getting tourist visas in Laos and Cambodia? Can I stay in Thailand indefinitely that way?

Does Cambodia give out double enrty tourist visas? Has anyone made a visa in Cambodia lately? I heard if takes 3-5 days to process a visa at the thai embassy in phnom penh.

I'm from the USA. If i went to the Cambodian border and came back i would get a 15 day entry visa right? Can I do that once every 6 months or once every 3 months after my tourist visa has expired?

It is very unlikely that anyone could remain in Thailand "indefinitely " by utilising the tactics outlined.

Back to back "visa exempt" entries are.an especially bad idea.

A US national gets 30 days at a land border without a visa and you can extend this with 30 days for 1,900 baht.

Laos give dual entry tourist visas, Cambodia not.

Living indefinitely on tourist visas will unlikely be possible, but a long time yes.

There has to be a limit on entry visas. Perhaps back to back?

There is no entry visa. Only entries from a visa obtained at an embassy or consulate and there is no limit on them.

There are visa exempt entries. One back to back is allowed at most border crossings. At the airport it can depend upon the officer that stamps you in.

Posted

You get a 15 or 30 day visa exempt entry. A visa on arrival is only for 15 days and is only available to people from certain countries and costs 1000 baht.

Posted

Now I'm confused. There are no 15 day or 30 day visas on arrival? Mario2008 just said I get 30 days at the land boarder.

-------------------------

There are no 30 day visa entries.

What you can get as a G7 national is a 30 day visa exempt entry, it is not called a visa or visa on arrival.

So the correct terminology for what you can get is a 30 day visa exempt entry.

Not a visa.

Posted

Is there a limit to these visa exempt entries?

Doing them back to back is strictly limited.

There is not a true limit on doing them but it depends upon on your entry and departure history. Once you get to a certain point you may taken to the side for questioning and could be asked to show financial proof for your stay (20k baht).

Can I get a 15 day extension on a visa exempt entry?

You can get a 30 day extension of a 15 day visa exempt entry at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

What is considered a "back to back"? Say I get a double entry from Sydney then come back & stay in Oz for 1-2 months & apply for another double entry, is that considered a "back to back" or not since I'm staying in Oz for a few months?

Back to back means leaving the country just to get a visa and immediately applying for one.

That normally does not apply if you return to your home country for a visa.

Ok thanks. So in essence I could get a double entry in Sydney, stay for 6 months in BKK then return back for a month, get another double entry in Sydney, stay for 6 months in BKK then return back for a month & do that continuously for 10 years if I wanted because it's not a back to back, correct?

What qualifies as "immediately applying for one"? Does that mean that the very day you leave Thailand you apply for another visa? 2-3 days later wouldn't qualify as a "back to back" then?

Also do they stamp your visa the 1st time or 2nd time or both times when you arrive at BKK airport?

At the moment you could do what you wrote about. But hard to say a few years from now.

The back to back is normally only applied where you can just cross a border (land or air) and get another visa near here at the same location. To break the chain at the same location you would just need to go someplace else for your visa.

The only thing they put on your visa is when you did the first entry and then they would stamp it used when you do the 2nd entry.
