No red shirts to upstage Prayut today
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The red shirts have no plans to upstage Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha when he pays an official visit to their heartland in Nakhon Ratchasima today.

"We will not deploy anyone to lift three fingers," Anuwat Thinrat, former chairman of the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship, said yesterday.

Prayut will meet farmers and local officials in Pimai district to discuss rice policy and management.

Anuwat said security officials had been keeping him and former co-leaders under surveillance for fear they would stage political activities against Prayut.

However, the group had suspended political activities and the PM should not worry.

"The PM can continue in his post no matter how many years. We will not protest but support him. But we ask him to help solve the problem of plummeting prices for produce like rice, tapioca and sugarcane,'' he said.

Prayut should refrain from enforcing laws with double standards.

"That puts people in an uncomfortable situation,'' he said.

Pol Maj General Thakoon Nattheesri, chief of Nakhon Ratchasima police, instructed officers to beef up security to prevent a repeat of the Khon Kaen University students' rally.

He ordered police to monitor the movements of political groups and deployed police to man state buildings that may be viewed as political symbols, such as the Prem Tinsulanonda building hall, Provincial Hall, provincial anti-graft building and the residence of Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda.

More than 300 police including an anti-riot unit would be stationed to maintain order for Prayut's trip.

Provincial Police Region 3 has been instructed to ensure officials are on stand while Prayut's in the province.

If memory serves, all these kids did was to stand up and complain. That is a concern for this government ?

We live in a world of crazy people. The last thing Thailand needs is a violent attack on a leader, no matter how illegitimate some may think the leader is. It wasn't acceptable when Abhisit was assaulted, not was it when Yingluck was attacked. It is in everyone's best interests that there are no violent confrontaions with the current PM as it would only give an excuse for more draconian suppression of civil liberties.

"We will not deploy anyone to life three fingers" - the hunger games salute is still going?! Movie = real life, same same but different....

It must be, if I remember correctly 5 or so were taken to an army camp and detained for attitude adjustment and their families were told nothing.

A really subversive bunch requiring very close attention.

Apart from anything else they acted against all that's holy here by thinking for themselves, after all they don't go to school or uni to learn, they go to pass exams.

I think the government opposition is simply sitting it out while the junta stumble from one problem to another.

Guess they feel they could not do a better job of disruption then the incumbents are doing to themselves.

No red shirts to upstage Prayut today

Is that an official pronouncement from the junta, or just an article headline?

Yah with bombs and bullets time after time everyone knows that.

More than 300 police including an anti-riot unit would be stationed to maintain order for Prayut's trip.

For the General order is maintained.

For elections, ... well, you know.... coffee1.gif

Maybe some brave Thais will make a statement anyway.

IMO, the red shirts need to understand that, unlike (possibly) Thaksin, they have nothing to gain in cooperation with this man and the people he represents.

""Öh no they didn't"

"Oh yes they did"

My dad is bigger than your dad crap. Come on people, it is the same old argument every time. How about something fresh and comment on the headline! It would seem after nearly a year since the 'change of political power' people are still arguing over red and yellow colours.

How what about arguing over what is right and wrong for a change.coffee1.gif

Oh you mean like when we all sat back and watched the Shin regime crumble to the ground like a demolished building, yes that will work ! clap2.gif

Don't be too hasty Mike, demolished buildings attract rats and vermin.

Red Shirt heartlands?

Don't make me laugh.

The red shirts around here are about as popular as a fart in a space suit.

All Thai Scouts will be banned from his visit so there is no misunderstanding. post-171049-0-55069600-1422872425_thumb.

P.M. Prayuth knows what keeps the country folk happy and contented. The ability to fry up a good batch of noodles, just like previous Prime Ministers.
