Thai Conservative Activist Warns of US 'Terrorism'
By Khaosod English

BANGKOK — A prominent activist from the ultraconservative movement that campaigned against the former government in Thailand has accused the United States of planning a terror attack in the Kingdom to provide a pretense for invasion.

Thanit Sriklindee, a 64-year-old folk musician turned “Yellowshirt” activist, wrote on his Facebook account on 31 January that the US is intentionally spreading anti-American sentiment in Thailand in order to incite violence that would justify a US invasion and "occupation" of Thailand.

"Please send this news to all Thais who love their country and land, so that they know about America's covert operation," wrote Thanit, a well-known flutist who joined the People's Committee for Absolute Democracy With the King As Head of State (PCAD) to protest against former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra last year.

Thanit regularly appeared on PCAD rally stages and played music to cheer up the protesters, who camped out in Bangkok for six months before the military stepped in and staged a coup on 22 May 2014.

His recent allegations came amid an ongoing diplomatic row between the Thai and US governments that erupted after a senior US official urged Thailand's military junta to lift martial law and cease all restrictions on civil rights.

  • I hear something like this from a lot of anti-American Thais. They seem to think the US wants Thailand and its oil. Yes, oil! Thailand can't supply its own energy needs and the US wants their oil?

Frankly, I cannot imagine why the US would want this place. Bangkok is a swamp and despite massive, massive US infrastructure support during the Vietnam War, Thailand has let all the advantages from that infrastructure head start evaporate. Were I an American policy maker, I would want NOTHING to do with administering this place. It's a dysfunctional mess from the standpoint of government. It's a wonderful place in many other respects, but it's just a nightmare to think about governing this place. Iraq was easier.

No doubt they wouldn't want this place.

Other conspiration theories are, they want that the Muslim South with the oil split away from Thailand. This new small country would allow them to easily get the oil cheap.

That is more probable, but still not probable enough to waste a second about it.

In the recent years USA just forced regime changes to get their way, that is a lot cheaper than occupy a country.

For certain TVF members this is the definition of conspiracy theorist.

May he should play his flute more often, or hire someone to do it...

Better check under the bed before you go to sleep tonight, Mr Thanit. Yep, that's your bed next to the window.

Well done !

let loose your fascist nationalism and this is the kind of nutcases you get.

the problem is that while it is crazy, it's not funny.

it's also just a normal tactic under ultra-nationalism to create imaginary external threats.

I bet if this guy protests in front of the US embassy, the 'government' will let them. wink.pngwink.png

Nahhh.
China's not being that rowdy at the moment.
And America's terrorism departments are already stretched thin in so many other places in the world.

Let me know if Beijing and Tokyo actually go to blows.
Otherwise, check back in 20 or 30 years.

Nurse....Nurse! Someone's left K. Thanit's door unlocked again.

Well, the consumer price index has fallen and the price of hookers in San Diego and Hawaii has increased. Maybe he just got his information confused with TAT's, and the U.S. Military is just recommending Thailand for R+R. Anyway, the U.S. doesn't want to out do one of its allies and have a 6 minute war.cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Invade? Hell they could send a company of Seals and one of Marine Force Recon and take over the place in 72 hours. coffee1.gif

"Please send this news to all Thais who love their country and land, so that they know about America's covert operation,"

And please tell us what good that would do even if every living soul here thought the US intended to invade? What would you do about it, Mr Sriklindee?

"Thanit has since published a post calling for a ban on US products".

Yes however they seem to gain an unusual amount of traction here with the mainstream media.

Send this guy to the same temple as Suthep.

Last year when all this started there were a number of people on here that balked at the suggestion this could turn anti foreigner. Maybe they will wake up now, as predictably it has to go that way. I hope everyone has a plan B.

Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction and it sure applies to this country.

Martial law will have to stay in place to protect the reactionaries from their own, not the good folk of Isaan...
