Lone robber escaped with 14 kgs gold‏

PATHUM THANI: -- A lone robber robbed a truck and escaped with 18 million baht worth of gold ornaments in Pathum Thani province today.

Lamlookka police said that the heist took place in Soi Wat Kateprapa in Tambon Bung Kamploy, Lamlookka district. A truck of Shining Gold company which reportedly carried 14 kilogramms of gold ornaments to be sent to gold shops in China Town stopped at the temple’s wall after it rammed into the wall.

Police said that a lone robber, riding on a motorcycle, approached the truck and opened fire at the car tyres forcing the vehicle to lose control and plunged into the temple wall.

The truck driver, Mr Korakot Changdecha, appeared to be shocked by the gun attack and quickly abandoned the truck hence allowing the robber to grab a baggage containing the 14 kilos of gold ornaments and escaped.

Shining Gold company’s owner, Mr Somsak Tanthachon, said the company usually used three vehicles to transport the gold ornaments and routinely changed travelling routes as a precaution against possible robbery.

Lastest report said police had arrested two company’s employees and recovered some of the stolen gold ornaments.

Sure looks to be a fine purpose built vehicle for the conveyance of high value goodswhistling.gif

More suited to the collection of scrap iron in my view.

As Baldrick says to Blackadder... I have a cunning plan my lord.

My bet is that only half of the gold will be recovered from the robbers :)))giggle.gifgiggle.gifgiggle.gif

Thai armored car/van/truck???

Inside job...............coffee1.gif

"A truck of Shining Gold company ... stopped at the temple’s wall after it rammed into the wall."

I had to smile when I read that. Too cute. I think that I, too, would stop at a temple's wall after ramming into it. But maybe that's just me.

Bet the police " interrogators " are working overtime with the electrodes to find

the rest of the gold....... That is a serious amount of gold. Think these jobs are

almost always inside, so pretty easy to find who did it. Armored trucks do in fact

exist in Thailand, guess this company does not believe in them.

Too bad they were ornaments and not amulets. After all, as we all know, no harm comes to those in possession of amulets. rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

They finally got the naughty boys. Read all about it on the unquoteable Bangkok newspaper website.

Thai armored car/van/truck???

Yes, that was my thought too.

Does such an animal exist in Thailand? I can't say I've ever seen a vehicle which even vaguely looks like an armoured truck.

Inside job...............coffee1.gif

The first thing that came into my mind !!!

Is only around 17,5 Million Thai Baht.
In thai politics you can make possibly much more.smile.png

Gold is heavy, 14kgs isn't really a lot. Light enough to get away on a scooter.

But I do agree with what was already posted above, inside job. Almost always is.

Fellas, as long term Expats will testify the cost of living has risen dramatically over the past decade in Thailand no matter what B/S they say, take the hint and join the new way of increasing your income , beats a trading platform and you don't have to do an apprenticeship. coffee1.gif

Thai armored car/van/truck???

They should have used a Tuk Tuk for the gold delivery, that would have been cheaper than this

pick up... and yes, paint a big sign on the tuk tuk saying shining gold company delivery, that will

help the stealth aspect of the security... what a dufuses.....

BANGKOK: -- POLICE quickly nabbed two men yesterday for allegedly stealing gold ornaments worth Bt21 million.

Suriyachan Thaitanu, a new employee of gold-ornament factory Shining Gold, told police that he plotted the robbery in the hope of using the stolen gold for his wedding ceremony and clearing a football-gambling debt.

His accomplice was Sompong Kamson, according to the ongoing police investigation.

Police said Sompong, riding on a motorcycle, shot at a vehicle transporting the gold ornaments while it was on its way to factory customers.

The robbery took place on Soi Wat Kedprapha in Pathum Thani's Lam Luk Ka district shortly before 11.30am.

Korakot Changdecha was driving the gold-transportation vehicle when Sompong came alongside and shot out the vehicle's tyre.

Korakot lost control of the vehicle, which hit a wall, prompting the driver to run for his life, while Suriyachan, who was also in the vehicle, pretended to do the same. However, after being grilled by police, Suriyachan confessed to being part of the heist. Police were then able to arrest Sompong and retrieve the gold.

Shining Gold owner Somsak Tantachon said: "I've been in this business for 20 years and such an incident has never happened before."

Good haul, literally.

Others got away stealing thousand's of tons of Thailand's white gold,- so what?

Shining Gold owner Somsak Tantachon said: "I've been in this business for 20 years and such an incident has never happened before."

But the Thai Visa bar stool transport experts say you have to use an armored vehicle ... because if one of the people inside the vehicle is the thief he couldn't get in ... no wait he'd already be inside ... but it would be armored and well the bank robbers on CSI always rob armored vehicles so they must be best because if you use an armored vehicle no one would know you were transported something valuable ... maybe.

However, after being grilled by police, Suriyachan confessed

yes, grilling will do that. Royal Barbeque Police

.... 21 million baht for a wedding and a football gambling debt....????

True, the missus can be a bit expensive and the wedding will cost a bob or two.... but "Darling, we have to live in the car" because of gambling debt!!!!!!!????????

Lost in translation... Marriage should be a a gambol

So It takes ramming into a temple wall to stop an Thai gold shipment. In a cheap pickup. Then you grill passenger was that medium well or rare? Wouldn't a local Burmese do as suspect and rubber hose confession work. Now at final count all but 40 baht of gold was recovered right?

14 kilos of gold, eh? By my quick reckoning that's worth around 20 million baht.

Thai armored car/van/truck???

Doesn't claim to be armoured.

Looks like it didn't have a happy ending just like the one you get to see in the movies.

Dumb plan, dumb act resulting fast arrests.....lol
