Interior Minister admits reported assassination attempts against PM

BANGKOK: -- Interior Minister Air Chief Marshal Kongsak Wanthana conceded here Monday that recent reports on assassination attempts against Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra have grounds.

The minister said, however, that the 'information' he received had not yet probed by intelligence units.

"I was reported on the 'information', but it's still considered a rumour as it has yet verified by any official intelligence unit," he told journalists.

The interior minister stressed, however, that there would be no reinforced security measures for the caretaker prime minister at places he would visit, saying the "VIP-level" security preparedness for the Thai leader was considered sufficient.

Responding to journalists over continued anti-Thaksin movements, particularly those of the premier's arch critics formed themselves as the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), ACM Kongsak said: "The government has fully respected the rules and we'd like to see reciprocal practice from all other parties."

:o those lines are funny.

One says that the PM isn't important enough to warrant investigating whether or not someone is trying to ... uhmm ... him.

And the second one says that not only are we not investigating the reports, we're not even doing anything preventative, again apparently because the PM isn't worth the effort, just in case they are true...

ACM Kongsak assigns National Intelligence Agency to find facts on the plans to murder PM

The Interior Minister, Air Chief Marshal Kongsak Wanthana (คงศักดิ์ วันทนา), has assigned the National Intelligence Agency to gather facts about the plot to assassinate Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

However, ACM Kongsak said further details on this matter have not been reported to him at the moment. He said that the validity of such news cannot be proven, and therefore, special security measures for the premier have not been issued yet.

As for the possible confrontation between the Prime Minister’s supporters and his opponents, the Interior Minister stated that every side should obey the law.

Notice the times of these posts? It's a testament to how avidly General Kongsak reads thaivisa...

In under an hour, the statements and plans change...

Glad we could help you out, General...

More security measures not laid out for PM

Pol. Lt. Gen. Chumpol Manmai (จุมพล มั่นหมาย), the Director of the National Intelligence Agency, affirmed that he did not dispatch more officials to ensure security for Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, following the assassination report.

Speaking about the security measures for the premier after Thai Rak Thai MP Pairote Suwanchawee’s (ไพโรจน์ สุวรรณฉวี) commented that some people are trying to force the premier to take a political break and may inflict violence, Pol. Lt. Gen. Chumpol said that more security measures are not be laid out.

During the meeting on security issues today, the National Intelligence Agency Director said that the degree of violence in the Deep South is severe, while more than 40 cell phones have been bought by an unknown individual. Authorities have noticed that the cell phones may be used to cause violence in the restive south.

HOWEVER, he's STILL not important enough to instigate any

"pro-active" changes even on the off-chance that the threats are true.

well done, boys... :D

I await the updated news report referring to added security measures within the hour.... :D

It's the second time around they use this farce within two or three months on the public only to gain more pity votes. Both the idea and their following comments are ridiculous. Go and ask what Somchai's wife, Tak Bai and drug killing victim's relatives think of this "murder plot" of a murderer. The same man who has not yet ever publicly stepped forward to ask or order his supporters not to interfere with PAD rallies or protesters.

In the meantime, he still exposes himself openly even though he would have been the first one informed of this? Yeah right.

This country is indeed in need of a new government followed by a widespread flush of the incompetence that plagues it's operations. The "It's not what you know but who you know" way of choosing these people has to stop.

Well it's quite possible, that the 5-year-old is a member of the Youth-Section of the PAD, and therefore a likely terrorist and assasin.

Whereas it is 100% certain that the security-guards & bodyguards surrounding our acting caretaker PM are thugs.

How long does the country have to wait - before Thaksin & TRT condemn these people who are beating-up women and children ? Very long, I suspect.

Where in the rules does it give TRT or acting caretaker PM Thaksin the right, to beat up women or little children, or indeed any of their fellow citizens.

Is ACM Kongsak a hypocrite, a liar or merely a tool fool ?

in the making - or home made.... rumours... as it has been said. :o

This is a complete PR stitch-up, designed to removal political rivals.
