Court approves arrest warrant for two unidentified men

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court Wednesday approved arrest warrants for two unidentified men suspected of planting pipe bombs on the elevated walkway linking Siam Paragon and BTS Siam station on Sunday evening, Deputy Police Commissioner Pol Gen Jakthip Chaijinda said on Wednesday.

The two men were seen arriving by taxi shortly before the bombs exploded, Jakthip said. The warrant describes them as tall Thai men.

The bombs were similar to those that exploded at the Samarn Metta Mansion building and in Minburi last year, Jakthip added. Four people were killed when bombs stored in a rented room of Samarn Metta Mansion in Nonthaburi's Bang Bua Thong district exploded in October. The room was believed to have been rented by a red-shirt man who was killed in the blast.

Jakthip said police believed the two men had several other accomplices and experience of planting bombs, as they appeared calm on the security camera footage.

Jakthip said police are now focussing investigations on a political motive.

So it's an open warrant and they can arrest any two they like. Hey Somchia, you in the white shirt, your under arrest because you are wearing a white shirt. But this is my restaurant and I'm the chef.

Warrants would only be issued if they "authorities" had an idea of WHO those responsible are. At this point, I am not sure if they have any idea who the perpetrators are. So how would a warrant help if they had no name to put on those arrest warrants?

An open warrant allows for a frame up, just pencil in the names when you have a couple of innocent scapegoats.

Groups: (1) There is the group who is very content with the present government; (2) There is the group who detests the current government but is keeping a low profile hoping for new elections; (3) There is the group who plants sophisticated IEDs who wouldn't bother with such a crude device; (4) There is the group in green who might do anything to tighten down the screws. Miss anyone? Oh yes, the techno-students commemorating a certain day. 'Course it might not be any group - just those 2 Burmese guys who got a night out from the slammer.

Geez, you can place and detonate a couple bombs, with idiots standing 1M away......BRAVO.

Interesting is that there were people 1M away. Were they trying to cause physical harm to these people, or did they just not care? Some initial reports said they might have just done it as a statement and not intending to harm anybody. This looks like they didn't care if they injured people or not.

Is that how it works in Aussie then?

No. In Aust you don't need to obtain warrants to interview suspects or arrest people suspected of committing an indictable offence. The only time you would obtain a warrant to arrest is if you can't locate an offender and you want filed on the national data base in case another officer comes across them.

1. US diplomat tells it like it is

2. Gen D & other nationalistic freaks throw hissy fit

3. Junta schemes for a few days about how to discredit the bad press

4. A bomb is planted to cause the maximum publicity but no casualties

5. Authorities catch 2 red goats who prove, i) the US diplomat was wrong, ii) an extension of martial law is needed, iii) the reds are evil terrorists, iv) elections can be pushed back further, v) the people are lucky to have the good General in charge

Perhaps you should add 3A - Junta sends fake e-mail to UDD "Restart bombing campaign. Cheque in the mail. Thaksin."

...or perhaps the fake email isn't really a fake. What reason to think the latter is any less likely than the former? (Unless that's just simply your prejudice?) So why gratuitously stir the pot by making the suggestion (oft referred to as "trolling" hereabouts I think...)?
