Only Being a Foreigner means your talents ingnored by Employer or Thai HR

Recommended Posts

I am Indian living in Thailand for a year now before i moved out of Dubai.

I was in top earning position in Dubai as well as expert in Customs clearance and logistics.

Ability to handle any situations and tough on my consignments that i am choose for.

I have proper Work permit from a employer, but i am in hunt of new job as this company is going to shut down.

Even in Thailand i posses Thai driving Licence and know roads better than a Thai does.

I also have Good education as well excellent professional track records.

I wonder when i apply hundreds of job and i am ignored like nothing and i was so sad to know the reason.

most of them think that being a foreigner i may not be competitive and they decide this without seeing my CV but my nationality?

I was working in top company in Dubai in managerial level and i go crazy when i heard the comment.

I am in tense to move out of Thailand as my wife live here with a new project from a company and she is well settled.

She got the job, she was engineer and employed by company while we were in Dubai.

If some one can help me to get some good opportunity i will be thankful.

i can send CV if you post email ID also please let me know you do face this being a foreigner or Does Thai also face this problem when they get to be recruited.

Why would they employ a foreigner, if they have local staff that can do the job. If you have a specific skill set, then it is different, but the days of lots of expat jobs are long gone, unless you really have a niche.

No man its not being foreiginer thats a problem, they're discriminating you because you're indian. Like this this club I used to go to, mixx, they wont let you in on friday or saturday if you're indian. They'll say its members only.

I asked the guy why they werent letting em in, he said they were creepy and stingy. Apparently they buy 1 beer and share it between 3-4 guys, LOL. Just go back to Dubai with your wife, I'm sure she can settle there, plenty of good jobs for women.

you could

- apply to jobs that say "Thai citizens or Thai residents only" because the company does not want to go through the hassle of WP for you

- apply to jobs that require Thai language knowledge which you might not possess

- apply to jobs that are reserved for Thai

- apply to jobs that need excellence in English which - reading your post - you might not have to the expectations of the company

it is NOT the Thai way to reply when they do not want you, mostly clearly stated in the job advertisements.

Right now, Thailand is suffering from a work force shortage. They have an extremely low unemployment rate. I can tell you first hand that my employer cannot find qualified people. Having said that, they will still rather go without than hire a foreigner. I was the last lucky one. It is what it is.

Two things.

Thai's do not like compentant foreigners, they could lose face if your ability is higher than their's (which is not difficult to achieve in most cases).

You need to improve on your written English communication ability (and possibly your verbal). Whilst we can understand what you are saying, if I received a letter from you written in the same form as your post it would be binned with no reply.

Good luck.

A lot of truth in the previous posts.

I've tried, myself, to get a well-paid job in Thailand. Almost impossible, I'll develop later...

Three paths for potential job opportunities:

* Teaching

* Expat: sent by a foreign company to work in Thailand

* "working online"

One point to take into consideration:

it's very unlikely to earn a package similar to a European one. Thai packages over THB10M a year are very rare while they are much more common in Europe (GBP200K + a year).

OK, cost of living will be higher in Western Europe. However, in other EMEA sub-regions cost of living could be quite similar to Thailand...

Best strategy could be to get a good (and well paid) job outside Thailand and be back (?) later.

Just my 2 cents!

Many Thais think we are as stupid as they are, even more so, and they aren’t afraid to show their disgust with you for being what they think is stupid or slow. Very often, when I try to give them correct change and I'm a little show they have no qualms about reaching right into my hand and pulling out what they need and they do not do it with a smile, but more a disgusted look on their face because I was taking too long.

Even in Thailand i posses Thai driving Licence and know roads better than a Thai does.

Most falang know roads better than Thais when it comes to going to a new or unfamiliar place, because Thais don’t know how to read or use maps and don’t even understand how to use the highway numbers. I once asked two police officers how far away this road was and showed it to them on a map. It turns out they pointed me in the opposite direction, it was only 1 kilometer down the road the other way. Now that is stupid -- you would think police know how to use maps, roads numbers and at least be familiar with the roads near where they patrol.

It doesn't help to be Indian in Thailand. I don't know why or if there is a historical background, but Thais distrust Indians.

There are 2 sayings I know "The Indian wears a turban because he has to hide the snake somewhere" and "If you see a snake and an Indian, you better kill the Indian first".

I work as a trader in a Thai company and whenever there is interest for our materials from India it's ignored until other buyers appear.

Many Thais are very chauvinistic and consider Thailand and the Thais as the best that ever happened to the world, so any foreigner including myself is confronted with part of this attitude more or less. In the end we are stupid farang that have no idea how things work in this world.....

I would go somewhere else Dubai is much better for Indians.

I'll remember that, thanks................................rolleyes.gif

What an incredibly stupid statement and obviously untrue. But if you're one of the incompetent farangs working in Thailand, I'd imagine you'd like to believe that.

You are hardly qualified to pass judgement on English language skills given the mistakes in your own grammar and punctuation:

1. Compentant: No such word.... Try Competent (without the 'N' and with an 'E').

2. Though you may see their’s written even by native speakers, it is incorrect. Theirs should never have an apostrophe.

3. Thai's is wrong it should be written Thais.

Therefore.... "You need to improve on your written English communication ability (and possibly your verbal). Whilst we can understand what you are saying, if I received a letter from you written in the same form as your post it would be binned with no reply".

This forum is for speakers of many languages whose native language is not English and it was previously stated by TV moderators not to complain about mistakes in grammar, for reasons that have now become apparent to yourself.

Furthermore Thais love competent foreigners. However, many like to keep them only as long as they can steal their ideas (usually 2 years).

10mill baht a year????? I personally know two Thai vice presidents of big companies who are on less than that and in Europe you'd have to be senior level management to get anywhere near it. Not sure what position you have in mind for that salary level.

Yet the Buddha was an 'Indian' and many of the religious statues around Bangkok are actually Hindu gods that Thais wai every time they go past. Yet they don't like Indians, says something about Thais more than Indians.

Advice for Indian seeking a job in logistics.

Many Chinese Thai businessmen have a saying in the Thai business community: If you meet an Indian and a snake in the jungle, who do you shoot first. The snake or the Indian? The answer is the Indian because he is more dangerous than the snake.

Also many only like people with fair skin which is why skin whitening creams sell by the bucket load here.

My advice is to do some research and approach companies run by Thai-Indian businessmen. Go to the Thai-Indian Chamber of Commerce library and get a list of logistics firms owned by Indians. Also learn to read and write Thai.

Well, technically Buddha was born in Nepal.

It's absolutely true in my line of work.

Been working with +60 Thai programmers and none, NONE came up to a level where you are considered to be a professional in the western world.

Not said they weren't proficient in PHP and possibly JAVA but only a vary small percentage knows programming languages like C++, C# and these programmers were to be considered to keep a high level of knowledge.

Almost all of them were paid well, with Thai measurement.

One of Thailand's many "Amazing" talents is not yet but, soon will be recognized by the Guinness Book Of Records" as hitting one's head against a brick wall which, in Thailand, ranking Thailand, globally, Number One in Ignoring any/all good advise. Hitting Ones Head Against A Brick Wall is an Olympic Event here. Notice the very high hairlines on Thai official's heads ?

First, the language is called English and not British

Second, if the OP sends his application letter / CV written in the same bad English as he wrote his initial post, such an application would immediately end in my round basket (also called trash), since as an Employer in Thailand, why should I hire a specialist for custom and clearance, if he can not communicate in proper English with my customers abroad?

I said the same as John1012 about English in my earlier post... and being Swiss, I can not be a "british language rassist" tongue.png
