Been flying Thai Bkk-Moscow-Bkk for the last 4 years each month, booked about 2-3 months in advance each time,my company policy is cheapest flight available or within 10% and usually they are the cheapest,so they can't be most expensive for all destinations! No complaints about the service to date apart from the priority status of luggage means nothing at DME airport!

I would still pay the Thai price because BA are a hopeless shambles. As for 'All Others' - the comparison with Thai is unfair and illogical since the 'Others' all involve changing planes with often long stop-overs in between and therefore MUCH longer total flight times between BKK and London.

Most Thai in UK that I know have always preferred Eva, they say they get treated poorly on TG. TG are not always the most expensive, to NZ recently they were the cheapest.

This route has actually been heavily discounted in recent months (at least going the other way, BKK to LHR is always more for reasons unknown!)

i booked it for 25,000 THB last month which is outstanding for a direct flight.

Many people close to Thai had hoped the coup would mean the end of free flights for government officials and anyone in their circle, in reality it`s been quite the opposite, making their problems worse.

How easy will it be for Thai to get these routes back? Do they own them or can other airlines take them up if Thai no longer is using them?

 

Actually, since there is an 'open sky' agreement the airlines do not own traffic rights on certain routes. What the 'own' are landing and starting slots at the airports.

In order to soften the blow when a contract or service is ended, I have often found they use the term rangap (suspend temporarily) instead of loek or jop (end or finish) even though both parties know it is the end, often for quite natural reasons.

And yet many Thais living in the UK insist on flying Thai, often providing irrational and non-factual reasons to support their choice of airline.

e.g.

The flight staff can understand (and yet you choose to live in an English-speaking country )

There is unlimited baggage for Thais flying on THAI (in defiance of gravity )

Arabs smell (in reference to the Middle Eastern airlines, Qatar, Etihad, Gulf, etc.)

When dealing with Thais and indeed the fate of Thai Airways, logic needs to be suspended as other less tangible priorities take precedence.

I befriended a Thai manager living in Europe.

There is a special rate for returning Thai residents that is kept very very quiet. It is for pooyais, embassy and others.

I once paid 7000 baht London Bangkok return, with a nice escort to the lounge.

Their pricing is all hidden away and only available for a select few.....No wonder they lose plenty.

Was that a direct flight from bangkok to Auckland?? and if so what was the price> I have flown thai back on forth from bangers to NZ. and Thai has always been more expensive.

I find what you say hard to believe re to New Zealand and over the high season in N.Z. ( NOV TO FEB) they always lift there price up seeing it is summer time there and winter time in Thailand

My wife prefers to fly non stop with Thai and she does say that arabs smell too, plus look at her too!!! Doesn't bother me, prefer a cheaper flight.

I live in Denmark and when i go to Thailand i always fly Thai. I know that it is not the cheapest airline but is not the most expensive either. For example I will be going to Thailand around June 1 and thai is charging around 565 Euro for the flight. I can find a cheaper ticket with Qatar at around 420 Euro (the cheapest I have ever seen a ticket on a non lowcost carrier). But there are 2 things that count in favor of choosing Thai. The biggest for me is the direct flight I don’t have to spend 3 -4 hours in a airport changing flights. Also when I calculate the true cost of the trip I have to include what I would spend during the stopovers and that could easily amount to 30-40 Euro each way. The second is actually the baggage allowance, attaining silver status requires only one return flight (10.000 miles) and then you get 10 kg extra luggage and in my experience that are very liberal with overweight . I had often had 10-15 kg overweight with no problem.

But on the downside are the recent changes to their bonus program. I have upgrated my ticket to Premium Economy several times (and on CPH-BKK, PE is in business class seats) for only 25000 miles. So 2 trips to Bangkok and a little local star aliance buisness trips would give me 1 upgrade that is a quite good deal. But with the recent changes to the bonus program that is no longer an option.

So in general I’m quite satisfied with thai but one thing that would change my mind was if I could fly with the A380 but then I have to wait at Doha airport for 8 hours and that is just to long.

Not sure why but the company I work for always books through Thai airways. Flew to Sydney last week in business class (94,400thb), looked at Emirates who for business class (which is superior in my opinion) were charging 84,500thb. There was 6 of us going and we amounted to half of those in the business class section.

Korean Air: Same

China Eastern: 20000bht aprox

United: 27-28000bht aprox

Also book through Expedia.com (THE US SITE) and your fare will be less than going trough the UK or EU Site/s. Kayak is very good and you should set yourself an "Alert" so you can keep up with the daily and even hourly fare prices.

Is this when the Thai is paying themself or a foreigner is paying, or taking care of them? I find most Thai want the cheapest they can get, even the ones with money. When I fly Thai to LHR it is about 90% non Thai and out of the remaining 10% how many of them are discount fares as they are staff etc, probably a .......

According to this, http://blog.rome2rio.com/2013/01/02/170779446/ , Thai is cheaper on average per km than BA and is in the middle worldwide. It also shows them as cheaper than the Middle Eastern operators who are generally far cheaper than Thai and I think this is quite telling of the problem. Although Thai is competitively priced, in practice the other airlines undercut them through brokers. Thai really need to learn the game if they want the flights to London.

After ten years of flying Thai airways - I parted company when I learnt they allowed employes time off to attend Bangkok marches , which led to this coup.

So I have no sympathy - especially with their inflated prices and pretensions .

Well that cost them your custom, but probably helped ensure that they will continue to be kept out of rhe financial pooh by this government.

Probably won't do them any harm when their share of the domestic market falls to the point at which the low cost carriers need to be reined in either.
