Thailand Philharmonic Free Concert in Pattaya

Featured Replies

The Thailand Philharmonic has had a strong group of Pattaya expat supporters who attend almost every concert, and have for years. The Siam Country Club is owned by the the owner of Yamaha - another giant supporter of of TPO organization. TPO is happy to be able to visit Pattaya to perform and say Thank You to our generous patrons. Hope you can come listen - and perhaps join our expat supporters to see us in our regular concert venue of Prince Mahidol Hall, on the campus of Mahidol University.

  • Try the link without the www. http://pattayaclassicalmusic.com/ That seems to work. Scroll to the bottom of the page. All details are there.

  • This is a draft. The final might change. But it will give you an idea.

Just a lousy location. I know a dozen classical music lovers cannot attend because of the location. Next time perhaps Bali Hai or tiffany or coliseum can donate their facility. I will have to miss this performance, a real downer for me.

Have you seen the location? I was just out there today. It's quite pleasant.

If transport is an issue, I suggest you discover grabtaxi.com. The 14km trip will cost you around 400 baht.

Being pleasant isn't the point, being in the boonies is. Being in a central location so the maximum number of people can enjoy a potentially wonderful concert should be of primary importance. Even the map showing directions from central Pattaya shows crossing Sukumwit and going up Siam country club road which is a physical impossibility.

I am sure you can figure it out Bob ;)

Yep, got it figured out and about 10 of us have to pass because of location. It's easier to catch a concert in Bangkok which we will do. I guess you are unaware of the tunnel debacle which has caused a disruption in people's lives here in Pattaya. Have a wonderful concert, continued success and we'll catch you in Bangkok!

Directions from pattaya klang or pattaya tai or did i miss them, please?

There is a map in the link.

Hmm, I wonder how it will go down in Sloane Street when friends hear that someone has booked a VIP table to listen to the Thai Philharmonic in Pattaya, probably best not to say much on the subject!

But you see the problem, Pattaya will take many years to shed it's previous/current reputation, despite the existence of learned and musically appreciative folks in abundance, no slurts or slights intended in part or in hole.

Enjoyed the concert very much, and the location was ok.All the vocalists were excellent !Only a 10 minute ride for me from the start of route36 and turn right at the racing circuit!!

Been there too.

First off, a good start. At least we had eventually something symphonic in Pattaya.

Now for the critic...

Scrap that sound system. The strings flattened completely the woodwinds and even the brass had a hard time to compete. Must add that I was sitting to the very right of the stage, having a speaker tower turned sideways blaring right into my ears.

The venue was nice, maybe a tad small but certainly way too hot. Try again there in the cold season. Approaching Tiffany's or similar venues is certainly a good idea... Not sure whether they would be in for a deal, though. I understand that finding suitable venues is a challenge.

The singers, yeah well, needs practice... I was not much impressed. Some were better than others but not all of them were up for the task.

And last not least the selection of pieces. If I checked this thread earlier I might have skipped the event, the musical level of most pieces was just one notch above ABBA. One crowd pleaser chased the other, Webber, Strauss, Sinatra, you name it. I'm looking forward for a redo with some Russian masters, Prokofiev, Stravinsky...or anything else that is interesting to listen to. There was one piece still that I liked, reminded me of Vladimir Cosma, but no idea what it was.

Again, a good start, but please move up from pop music disguised as classical music. It's not the instrumentalisation that makes the difference, it's the selection of the music.

B)

raro - hard to please?

wasn't it a free event?

yes, it was. And it would have cost the same if they played something else.

...And last not least the selection of pieces. If I checked this thread earlier...

I did... saved me the hassle.

Open air / electrical amplified isn't my thing either.
