I went to immigration this morning to apply for my 1 year extension and in addition to being told I would have to provide two witnesses, they have also said they want photographs of my children.

I really don't understand the children photograph requirement as its not mandatory to have children in order to qualify for a marriage extension is it?

When the immigration officer looked through the photos we provided, a couple of them included my grandson, he asked who the child was and then decided I had to provide pictures of both my adult children also.

Is this a normal requirement?

No it is not normal to have show photos of your adult children But they can ask for what they want to.. I would not think they would have to a your house.

They commented about our nieces children being in the photos one time and accepted them but said next time not to. They even said something about a cat in one photo also.

CW sometimes asks for this type of information. They wanted a copy my adult son's birth certificate and passport one time. I just told them I did not have that with me and the Officer continued to issue the extension. I brought the copies at the next extension time but the officer did not ask for them. I just keep a copy of all this stuff in file with my extension documents in case asked again.

I think the point is that they want pictures taken for the official purpose, not your casual family pictures.

The spouses portrayed in front of the house with the house number being visible. With children if they are living together, otherwise nobody else.

And the same in family room.

Having gone back the next day along with my 26 year old daughter, they still wanted my son (who works and lives in another province) to attend also. Then they decided there was another problem as the marriage registry entry (Kor Ror 2) said we had no children - which of course was correct when the marriage was registered, which was 29 years ago. Their solution was to have us re-submit our application, removing any mention of children and thus removing the requirement for them to attend at immigration.

Good that was resolved. Which office was this ?

I'm not sure naming the office is such a good idea as in the end they bent the rules for me, lets just say it was up in the North-East and leave it at that.

If you really want to know you can pm me.

They did not bent any rule. Following the list documents needed for an extensions of stay based on having a Thai relative. No need to have anything about children in case of marriage.

The rules are whatever the officer behind the desk decides which is pretty much what my opening post was about.

Have a look at what ubonjoe says in post #2 about rules.

There is nothing in that list you provided that mentions needing two witnesses but that didn't stop them from saying I needed them.

The list also doesn't mention having 400,000 baht in the bank as being acceptable (which it is) , it only says you need evidence of 40,000 baht income.

Again I do not think they bent any rule in having you re-submit a more correct application.

The rules state that the marriage must be "de iure and de fact" that means that immigration can ask for supporting fact like photos or witness. That is normally done for first applications only although I can imagine a zealous new manager may want to have these re-done for everybody.

Having made a mistake in copying the official regulations is also no big deal as long you are able to apply based on the official ones.

"re-submit a more correct application"?

They had me submit an application that they knew to contain a false statement, i.e. that I had no children.
