Popular Post KarenBravo
Just read an article in PG about two Russian guys caught after complaints of petty thievery and overstay. The comments about this are vitriolic, to say the least. Over the years, you can read very similar stories where the "villain" is of all different nationalities, yet this type of hatred is absent. Frankly, I don't get it. Interaction with Russians, on the whole, is limited, especially if you don't work here, as they keep themselves to themselves. I'm not an expert on Russians, but, I have worked with them many times at work on small ships where you can't ignore each other. The most striking thing is the huge difference between the young and the old. Older Russians are very, very patriotic and proud of their country. They can seem taciturn, until they know you better. They grew up in the Soviet era and are also keenly aware of Russia's accomplishments and sacrifices. The young, whilst also sticking to themselves, are usually friendly when approached. They are far more savvy than the oldies. The internet has given them a much broader view of the world. I've heard the stories of rudeness; pushing in at the 711 etc. But from my experience, rudeness crosses all borders. So.........why do you dislike Russian's?
Popular Post Costas2008
It's the same old story....... Why do you dislike, Thais, Americans, British, Greeks, Martians? People that dislike other nationalities are either racists or they have a habit of doing that as they don't like their own selves either.

Popular Post fiddlehead
There are good and bad people everywhtere. I think the more you travel, the more you learn to be more open to their ways. Russians don't necessarily go out of their way to make friends. But if you do make friends, they are fine, intelligent, caring people. Of course some are crooks too. Same same with every nationality and culture (except mine of course!) I certainly don't hate them. I appreciate their expertise in music, dance, gymnastics and their long legged women are damn hot too! Now the Germans........................just kidding.

Popular Post hansgruber
I have Russian neighbours, they can be loud at times but generally good people and friendly. Another time a Russian fellow plowed his bike into the back of my car at speed. I got a quote for repair outside of my insurance and he payed the very next day, some 27,000 baht. I prefer them to the wave of Chinese but that's a different story.

wellred
I've inly actually met 1 Russian in my trips to Phuket and he was pretty polite. There are ingrates in all corners of the earth so no use targeting 1 group of them.
Popular Post jacko45k
A couple of instances of attempted queue jumping at BigC, wandering around in Malls without shirts and inconsiderate smoking brought them to my attention. They seemed to be horribly rude to Thais attempting to serve them. I certainly wasn't looking for them. Likely it was the sheer (overwhelming) numbers and how they behaved in crowds that shone a spotlight..... fewer this year thankfully. Sorry I am in Pattaya. Popular Post Christie Paul
Nationalism, racial prejudice, sexism, dualistic fake democracy and religion and various other kinds of divisions are necessary to keep humanity manageable by a tiny elite, who without the ongoing production of strife, war and tension would be unable to acquire and keep the majority of assets and ensure the vast majority of people are firmly in their employ.

gigman
Disliking other nationalities is racism? ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆If you learn some of world history including youngest then you can use your opinion. I know what means to be under occupation of russians for 60 years ... and nothing changed in their behaviour now. Don't ask me why I had to run from my homeland in my young years to be separated from my family and friends . I choose this path of my life because of them but you probably dud not taste this kind of life hence I ignore your opinion. You probably live in beautiful surroundings in dream world. p.s I know them even here when came as migrants. Yes , they were friendly until got every thing I have .When they feel stronger then they start treat me as sh....t. Arrogant, arrogant people.

DrDave
While living in the US, I met a number of Russians and Eastern Europeans who were some of the most polite, friendliest and warmest people I've ever encountered. While living in Thailand, I've encountered a tremendous number of loud, arrogant and inconsiderate Russians and Eastern Europeans. The major difference, between the behavior of these two groups seems to be age and background. The majority of those I met in the US were middle-aged, and had left their homelands during hard times - many with only the shirts on their back. On the other hand, many of those I've encountered in Thailand are a bit younger, and seem to be of the newly minted "well off" variety. Same nationality, but totally different behaviors between these two groups. I must say, however, that the young Russian tourist who caused my first and only motorbike accident recently was extremely polite and apologetic.
rodroy
Spend a month or longer in Russia I spent nearly 2 years. The local folks the separate themselves into 2 groups very quickly; easy going and friendly and obnoxious mostly nationalistic hardheads who hate all foreigners on sight! Mix in the obligatory amounts of alcohol omnipresent all over the former Soviet Union and you amplify the behavior of both groups exponentially! Russians for the most part are gregarious people but add the booze and anything is possible but you can say that generally about many peoples! Popular Post marrmrrs
I have been in Pattaya about 18mths now and before i arrived i had never really been exposed to many Russians. So i actually had no opinion about them..... Well that has changed!?!?.... I live in Pratamnak Hill and is like Little Leningrad!.... I have never met a more dislikeable race in all my life. Thay are arrogant and surly. I just experienced a few days back a middle aged couple give a restaurant owner (who could not be nicer if he tried) a really hard time about the food and they would not let it go!!... When they came into the place they were carrying a couple of large beer bottles half in a plastic bag(what is that about!) He sat with his speedo's on and nothing else. The owner flipped and asked them to leave. I witnessed a couple of them peeing at the roadside, again booze fuled in the early afternoon and this happens daily. The other day again i witnessed a crowd in there 20's thinking it was hilarious to keep calling over the waiter by the pool to move his lounger 6ins either way!!!!... HILARIOUS!!! I have been told by my building manager that he avoids renting to Russians and after 18mths of them, i can now see why.

lowprofile
I hate their driving. It is bad enough at the best of times, here in Thailand, but when you add in the Russians in cars it becomes so much more dangerous. They just don't give a <deleted>.
