If one has not lived there, they really wouldn't know. (would they?) I did meet some great Russian Craftsmen right here in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were marble layers in a casino, that I worked at, during construction. I liked what they did, and they had a great sense of pride in their work.... We talked and became friends, they had a real desire for craftsmanship.... I was raised the same way, in America.... I personally enjoyed talking to them, and liked what they said.... As for Thailand? I truly cannot say.... But they were true craftsmen, and I respected them for their skills..... Just a thought..... Or is it just a thought that we shall never forget our heritage? The issue with Balkan states / Russians is : They in their manners appear to talk down to Thais and display poor manners. They ignore other tourists or are blatantly confrontational. They walk into restaurants and bars without a shirt on, sweating away and push past you! They never smile or make any effort to be cordial. They don't spend money! They walk around or sit on the road edge at 7-11s swigging beer out of bottles. So thats it! But like I said, many other countries have the same......just not so many! Villa market has a very sizeable Russian clientèle and the main nationality buying property at the moment is Russian. Therefore, I don't really believe that the Russians don't spend. I had a three day visit in Paris, and came across right idiots, I am talking about people in authority, and not immigration. I will mention just one of those idiots. I was taking photos of the Eiffel Tower from at least half a mile away, and this policeman started shouting at me "no photos". Popular Post Powerhousesteve Posted February 14, 2015 Popular Post Share Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) I have had much experience of Russians, in many different countries, I have travelled a lot, it is not racism to speak as you find, I have met some very nice Russians, and Nigerians, but the Russians have turned part of Pattaya into a toilet, the area of the beach that they frequent has turned into a loud, dirty place, where cigarette ends are gradually replacing the sand, they shout all day as they sunbathe, they do not seem to like other nationalities much, I prefer Thai's all day long, and it is a well known fact, statistics support it, Nigerians are some of the worst scammers on the planet, so do we pretend that it is not so just because we do not want to be accused of racism??? I have people occasionally make comments to me that English tourists can be a pain on their 18-30 holidays etc, I do not argue about it as know it can be true, everyone is entitled to their opinion and when you get 30-40 people telling you that the Russians have ruined an area, are they ALL lying??? making it up??? I have seen first hand the change in the little beach near Pattaya that I used to use (as it was fairly quiet) now it is a toilet, the Thai's are not the problem, they just appreciate the Russian money (you can't blame them for that) but the beach is now not a good place to go. If I can just quote an Indian friend of mine, who moved away from his family, in the UK because he married his wife without parental approval, after several years he divorced, and moved back to his parents home in East London, after a few days he came into work moaning, I asked him what was wrong, his answer shocked, and amused me, he replied "f***ing Indians" I asked what he meant, he said "they move in, each house has too many cars, there is nowhere to park, on our public holidays, and celebrations they block the bloody roads without a care for anyone else" his rant actually went on a LOT longer, he finished with the comment that he never realised until he lived outside of the environment for some years, then had to move back, now my question to you is, was he being racist, or stating a fact? a fact does not change just because you do not want to appear racist, if you make a table of the best, and worst tourists, is it racist if the English do not appear to be the best tourists?, or is it a fact? I speak as I find, I have found a few Thai's that can be obnoxious but a majority are lovely people, it is why I like coming to Thailand, I prefer Thai's to Russians, or Nigerians, is that a racist statement? or a fact? Likely it was the sheer (overwhelming) numbers and how they behaved in crowds that shone a spotlight..... fewer this year thankfully. Sorry I am in Pattaya. I am just back from Pattaya. I worked with several in Phuket, and while they were not exactly thugs, they were the laziest and whiniest staff we had. Funny, I don't mind Russians when I am in Russia, but the ones who travel, seem to be the worse. Perhaps because the majority who have the money to travel did not come by it honestly, consider what how poor the average Russian still is? After reading so much bad reports in Thai women about just looking for money, I have to believe that TV men do not know about Russian women.. I know many "smart" guys getting broke after getting married with Russians.....I have to admit that Russian women are really very beautiful and sexy...but also its know how to use its attributes to get everything...Too smart for some Westerners.
