ED Visa Entry Question

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have utilized my ED visa recently upon arrival at Suvanabhumi airport as the immigration officer told me me that I can't keep the visa for future usage.

The issue is my course only begin on the 30th of March. Prior to that I will need to make two trips to Bangkok which is from 8th Feb to 11th & 21st to 23 Feb and will on return on 28th March from Singapore to begin my course.

I have been granted entry till 8th May on a single entry ED visa. Prior to departure a few days ago, I manage to get a re entry stamp at the airport.

My question now is

1. Is the ED visa extendable up to 1 year or 6 months? There is nothing written on the visa under remarks by the embassy which issue me.

2. My course will only begin on 30 March and should end around late September or early October. Will I have any issue with my extension of stay since I have entered earlier by using the Visa.

3. The school told me that ED visa is only valid for 6 months but the immigration at airport told me that it's valid for 1 year. Becos if it's only for 6 months, I won't be able to complete my course which end in late September.

Any advice will be appreciated

Thanks guys ^^

Visas are not extendable.

An extension of stay may possibly be obtained but would depend on the school supplying the necessary paperwork . If attending a language school extensions beyond 90 days are not given and will not be available beyond the duration of the course. Each extension of stay costs 1900 Bht

You visa was only valid for one 90 entry and expires 90 days from when the date it was issued.

1. You can extend the 90 day permit to stay you got from your visa for 90 days at a time up to one year based upon your course of study. If your course of study is for 6 months you would get extensions up to the date it ends.

2. Not sure may you may have a problem getting the extension because you will not of been attending classes long enough to get it.

3. As I said your visa will of already expired. You will be getting extensions of stay. How long you can get extensions is dependent upon your course of study.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the reply..

I'm good as long as I'm able to complete my course without leaving Thailand for 6 months when I re enter on the 28th of March.

The school told me I won't need to do a 90 days reporting at the immigration office as they will do the extension for me instead.

Is it true?

The 90 day reports have to be done if you stay in the country longer than 90 days. The first extension counts as a report.

For those who are still on an ED visa which is eligible for extensions up to one year, do subsequent extensions after the first also count as a 90 day report, or does the report need to be done separately?

Only the first extension after a visa entry counts as a 90 day report. All others of the same entry do not count and you need to make the 90 day report on the date it's due.
