Hey

One of my friends, whose kids are enrolled at an international school, is about to lose his job.

I guess it will take a little while before he is hired again.

I had a discussion with his spouse today who said that, Until this happens, she would stay on her children's visa but it could be problematic for her husband.

I was under the impression that both parents were entitled to stay in Thailand on their children visa.

Am I wrong?

Please note that I am not asking for any alternatives and it is specifically about the two parents on their children's visa

Thanks

From what I know, immigration will not issue extension of stay for both parents. Furthermore, is not like they can "stay on their children visa", more exactly first the kids need to obtain an extension of stay for studying in Thailand, then a parent must obtain a non-imm 'O' visa outside of the country based on that, and finally he/she can apply for an extension of stay as guardian of a foreign student in Thailand, with proof of funds for Bt 500,000.

Per your request I will not mention any possible alternative.

One parent can get an extension per child. Each parent would need to have 500k baht in a Thai bank for 30 days for the first extension,

Thanks for both replies

I understand that only one parent can apply for this but I am a bit confused regarding the second answer: "each parent"

The kids have been studying here for years so I guess that there would be no problems for them

As far as the money is concerned, it is not an issue but thank you for mentioning it

As an example if you have two children then two extensions based upon being the parent of a child attending school can be obtained

One parent uses one the children's proof of having an extension of stay and shows their own 500k baht in a bank account in their name only and the other parent uses the other child's proof.and shows their own 500k baht.in another account in their name.

Thank you

Therefore one parent is entitled to apply for a visa on the first kid while the other parent may do so on the second kid

Thank you so much for the clarification
