If an ED visa is about to expire in march and will be applying for a marrige visa based on 400k in the bank but cant show the required 3 month just yet meaning after march one would be without a visa what would one do? I heard go to lao for double entry tourist visa which will give about 6 months is this correct? Also with it being an ED visa does one have to cancel it first? If yes how and where and would any paperwork be required?

Many thanks.

The 400k baht only has to be in the bank for 2 months for an extension of stay based upon marriage ( it is not a visa).

Even with the money in the bank you will not be able to change the reason for your extension to one based upon marriage. Bangkok immigration will not do it now.

You should go out for a single entry non-o visa based upon marriage and then apply for the extension during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry you will get from the visa.

You could also apply for a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage in Savannakhet with no financial;proof needed.

Thanks joe but one must show either 400k in bank or salary of 40 or 50k now correct? But what about canceling yhe ED visa?

It is 400 baht or 40k baht income to get an extension of stay based upon marriage.

You would do not need to cancel your extension based upon education unless you have a re-entry permit if you leave the country to get a visa because it will end as soon as you depart the country. If you leave via the crossing in Nong Kai you would need a letter from your school to cancel your extension before they would allow you to leave.

You could get a letter from your school to cancel your extension and apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife.
