90 day report - address to mail to and can you get receipt at PO Box?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm in Thailand on a retirement extension of stay. I'm giving up my Bangkok apartment now and expect to be travelling within Thailand for the next few months at various places. So I have two questions about 90 day reporting by mail:

1. Can I send the report to the Chaeng Wattana office regardless of where I happen to be at the time or do I have to mail to the local Immigration office for the residence address that I write on the TM.47 report form? For example if I happen to be in Phuket when I send in the TM.47 and give a Phuket address on it, do I have to mail to Phuket Immigration office?

2. I'm worried that (whatever the answer to question 1) I won't be staying long enough at wherever I mailed from to receive back the receipt of notification from Immigration. But I have a P.O. box in Bangkok. I would like to write on the self-addressed envelope that I send to Immigration the P.O. box address so I can pick up the receipt later on at my box in Bangkok. Is that allowed or does the self-addressed envelope have to have the same address on it as the address I stated in the TM.47?

Thanks for any advice.

TG

You must report to the office where you do your extensions of stay, so BKK-immigration.

Can't answer for sure if they will accept a PO-box.

Hi Mario,

Thanks for the quick reply. What if I go in person instead of mailing? I did my extension of stay in BKK but if I'm in Phuket when the 90 day is due can I do it in person in Patong or Phuket?

TG

No, unless you go and officially register your address in Phuket at the immigration office. They have their own form for that.

I see no reason whey you could not have it mailed to a PO box as long as it is in the same city and/or postal code where your home address is.

There are reports that immigration offices will only accept reports where you got your extension of stay. You can only report to that office now.

Thanks Joe. To be clear, are you saying that, although I'd have re-located to Phuket, I should use Chaeng Wattana (where I got my extension of stay) even for a report by mail, and not only for in-person report?

As for the PO Box, mine is in Bangkok and if I'm in Phuket when I send in my TM.47 (and give a Phuket residence address on it since I'll have given up my BKK apartment by then) it sounds from what you say like I won't be able to use my BKK box. Yet I don't expect to stay in Phuket long enough to receive back the receipt from Immigration. Any suggestions how to get the receipt?

The new rule is that you can only report at the immigration office where you got your extension. The exception should be that you can report at an office if you formally changed your address.at immigration.

I suggest you use the address in Bangkok that you have been using to do your reports on the TM47 form and put the PO box on the return envelope.

It sounds like immigration has created catch 22 situation. I agree that what UJ suggested above would most likely work. But you would be knowingly providing false information to immigration on an official form as you no longer live there and the form specifically asks for your current address. Would they ever check? No! But you would be supplying false information on an official form!
