Ret.Visa & border run(s)

Featured Replies

Have retirement visa-extention valid until Nov. 1st. Doesn't say anything about "multiple-entry".

So, if I do visa-runs every 90 days for the reminder of the year, will I need to present a "Departure / Arrival" (TM 6) card plus "Re-Entry Permit" (TM 8) at the border every time I do a visa-run in order to keep my Retirement visa "alive" until Nov. 1st ?

Thx & cheers.

If you are on an extension of stay you don't have to do visa runs, you only have to report your address to your immigration Office every 90 days. TM47 form. Free!

whistling.gif Do you have a VISA (which you recieved outside of Thailand) or do you have an EXTENSION of your original visa (that you recieved in Thailand at immigration)?

If it is the first it should say "M" (for multi" or "one year" somewhere on the VISA stamp in your passport.

If that is the case you will get a 90 entry stamp each time you enter Thailand...... and you can make multiple 90 day entries until that visa expires.

If it is an EXTENSION of your orignal visa, that you recieved in Thailand. you need to do 90 reporting at your local immigration, and if you want to leave the country you will need to get an exit-rentry permit to maintain your extension if you exit Thailand.

They are two different things, a retirement visa and an extension for one year by reason of retirement.

You must be careful not to get them confused; it's not just terminology, they have different requirements in reporting you need to understand and follow.

If not, you may have an unpleasent surprise at immigration.

Worth bearing in mind that if whatever you have was issued early November 2014 and you haven't left the country since then you are either on overstay or late for reporting already.

Actually, it's the second extension of original visa. All done within Thailand.

As mentioned, the problem arises because extension was done at Ayuthaya Immi but I belong to Nakhon Pathom Immi-District. According to new ruling, farang must file 90 day report at Immigration where extension was done.

Therefore (I suppose), I can no more file my 90 days reports at Nakhon Pathom. This is why I consider border-runs for the reminder of the "live" of my extension.. (I have no valid address in Ayuthaya.).

Cheers.

Correction: Actually last extension dated Oct. 9th. (sorry). Did my last 90 day per Dec 24 by mail to Nakhon Pathom (before Dec 29 = before new ruling took effect.)

Cheers.

The first thing that I would do is ask Nakhon Pathom whether they will still accept 90 day reports, you might have to file a change of address for TM28, I think. If not and you want to do "border runs", a multi re-entry permit is 3800 baht and the 90 days resets when you come back into Thailand.
