obtaining a tourist visa in Perth?

Featured Replies

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has gotten a tourist visa in Perth and how long the process took? I am flying to Thailand on 24th Tuesday night and was wondering if I go tomorrow morning to the consulate, will I have my passport back the next day ready before my flight?

Should be no problem. Long time since I have seen reports about Perth, but probably is even same day service if applying in person.

I am certain is is next day service. You should contact them to confirm. Contact Info is on their website and you can download the visa application form. http://www.thaiconsulateperth.com/

Thanks guys!! I will give it a go and re-post tomorro. Cheers

It used to be 1 day service under the old consul. Then he left and the office closed. When I went into the new consul office about 7 or 8 months ago it was explained to me that the passports now had to be sent to Canberra and it would take "just a few days".

I never bothered.

So if they tell you something different, I'd be interested to hear how you go.

Hi,

I put in my documents last Thursday and they will be ready for collection Next Tuesday. The Perth Consular application forms are on the net. The form says 3 business days.

They are in West Perth and have been very helpful to me in the past. Suggest you phone them.

Best of luck

It takes one week

I'm not sure why people are saying it has to be sent to Canberra or takes a week.

I expressed posted my passport there from Australind in January, posted Wednesday so I knew they'd get it Thursday (they're not open Friday) and had it back the following Monday. No problems with standard express post either (you can't get Platinum Express Post in Australind) vs Brisbane who made a fuss about it when I applied via them last year.

If you're turning up it should be a next day service, most consulates in Australia are, although for memory Sydney might be 4 days.

Just think twice before you send anything to the Embassy in Canberra. Last time I applied for a visa there the Embassy stalled my application for many weeks, simply by asking for more and more documentary evidence.

Finally, the day before i was due to fly out I called the Embassy and was told the good news: my passport and visa were ready to be posted out to me, that very day. They knew my planned date of departure was the following day, a Saturday - the whole pattern of behaviour was passive-aggressive behaviour to the max.

This wasn't a case for Australia Post. I paid nearly $200 to a courier for same day delivery and so I still managed to fly out on time, but the experience left a bad taste in my mouth.

When I finally got to Thailand, I found no-one else in circumstances similar to mine was ever asked for the amount of documentary information that i was. So do whatever you can in Perth, and avoid any dealings with Canberra!

I got a marriage visa in 3 days, just before xmass 2014. same for tourist visa, west perth yes great service, must pick up pass port at 2.30 pm to 4.00 pm I think. closed all thai public holidays as well as aussie public days,

The new consulate initialy did the visa as you waited, now its 3 days from drop to collect. If you ring and explain your situation, you may be able to do it on the day.

Make sure you have a copy of you ticket/itinerary and a copy of you information pages of your passport.. Also have change for the parking meters.

I was told by the Consulate office in Perth that they send it to Canberra. Not for me to send it to Canberra.

Leave your passport with us, we will courier it to them, they will send back, hence 3 or so days and hence you can only pick them up after 1.30pm (which is after they are returned to the Consul.

The old service was better as they could do the visa processing and attachment in-house, same day. But this is still better than no service which was the case for a while.

You don't need change, all those meters take credit cards [emoji13]

Thanks to everyone for all the responses! Yes it's 3 days. :( aw well, I will get 30 days on arrival and go to Laos for the double entry. Does anyone know how much it costs? Like a minivan to Laos and back from BKK, hotel and tourist visa package? Cheers!

Now I know it is 3 days. Next time you will know to do it earlier.

It costs about 3000 baht for a VIP van that includes the hotel and meals plus 1500 baht for the Lao visa and 2000 baht for the 2 entry tourist visa.

thanks Ubonjoe!!

I am sorry if this question has been covered many times before. Now that I will arrive on a 30 day visa on arrival with my Australian passport, might I need to show 20k proof of funds?? and if so could I withdraw it at an ATM machine after the immigration officer asks for it?? I am also flying in on a one way ticket as I plan to go to Laos to get my tourist visa. Abit paranoid now! cheers for all the help everyone

You will not be asked for the 20k baht.

You could be denied boarding your flight without a ticket out of the the country within 30 days of arrival. Just be prepared to get a cheap one way ticket to a nearby country if you have a problem.
