Cheese in Thailand

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Apologies in advance if this has already been discussed. As everyone knows, cheese here in Thailand is quite expensive. My cousin is a cheesemaker, currently working in Europe.

My questions are-would it be viable to establish a cheese production business here in Thailand? Are there any currently in existence?

Thanking you all in advance :)

Seem to recall one near Hua Hin by some farang / thai consortium.

Most of the Farang stores already sell imported cheese, albeit, expensive.

you could set up here i guess, but it's a crafty business to get into.

Krafty indeed!

There are cheese makers here now making good quality product.... An Internet search linking heaven and cheese or Heath and farm will show. Blessed are the cheese makers

I will be your first customer so send me a PM as soon as the online-shop has been set up rolleyes.gif

A guy I know has a cheese making business in Nakhon Sawan but he only sells to shops and hotels rather than having a retail or online shop. I believe he is doing very well.

I know that there is a niche market here but either you or your cousin will most probably need a Non Imm B business visa, a work permit and you will need to employ a number of Thais as well. I think a good business can be made but you will need a fair amount of money as start up capital to begin with.

It is certainly worth investigating deeper and as you can see there are quite a few people on TVF who would be interested in the end product.

I wish you and your cousin the best of luck if you try.

There are people manufacturing cheese in Chiang Mai.

I buy my yoghurt cultures from Australia and I know they send cheese cultures to Thailand for cheese manufacturing.

The price of good cheese varies a lot from store to store. In Chiang Mai, Makro has a good cheese selection and would be the cheapest I've seen.

Making good mozzarella to sell to restaurants might be a winner....many are crap.

By "Cheesus" that was very sharp!

Kwai mozza?

A good goat's cheese in Emporium will run you close on 1,000 baht for 100 grams.

Big opportunity to exploit the high end stuff.

Now if only someone would produce classy wine to go with ittongue.png

[you might have to go to Laos for the goats!]

The royal project was making buffalo mozzarella but I haven't seen it for well over a year. A pity. It was delcious.

I think he meant shredded mozzarella. I too think it might be good business to supply good mozzarella at a reasonable price to restaurants.
