Traveling to Thailand? Here's a new option for medical insurance for your stay

If you are planning a trip to Thailand, the normal approach to obtaining medical insurance for your trip is to take out travel insurance from your home country before you leave. However if you are a resident of Europe/UK, The Americas, Australasia, ASEAN and North/East Asia there's now an option to take out the cover with a Thailand based health insurer - an option that has some distinct advantages.

Pacific Cross Health Insurance in Thailand now offers ‘Inbound Travel Insurance’ which provides cover for medical expenses, hospital, and personal accident coverage. It’s available for periods up to 90 days and to travelers from age 6 months – 75 years. In common with most health/medical related insurance existing conditions are excluded, and a policy can be taken out before you leave (with a post-dated cover commencement date set for your day of departure) or if you overlook this you can also take out a policy within one week of arriving in Thailand – and of course as long as you have access to email and have a credit/debit card for payment this can all be done remotely.

There are some advantages to this arrangement. Firstly, because this is the ‘home ground’ of Pacific Cross Health Insurance we have an excellent network of hospitals and health providers with whom we have a close relationship, and in the majority of cases if you are hospitalised we’ll pay the claim directly rather than you paying and then obtaining a reimbursement – which can be a tremendous advantage. The cost and the claim occur in the same location, and in the same time zone with no language and currency conversion issues making administration so much easier than managing claims reimbursement from another country.

At a practical level if you suffer a medical problem or have a serious accident in Thailand we are here right on the spot to give you help and advice; we can help you get the most appropriate treatment; and in many cases where there are language or cultural differences we are able to help you understand clearly things like your diagnosis and treatment options, as well as make sure the things you want to communicate to the medical and support staff are correctly understood.

As anyone who has fallen ill or had an accident in a foreign country will confirm the added stress of managing a claim and pre-approval for medical treatment from an insurer in a different country and time zone is considerable and if this is not necessary it can relieve the person who is suffering a medical condition or injury - as well as those close to this person whether in Thailand or their home country - of enormous levels of stress and worry.

The second major advantage is that as long as Thailand is your first stop within the ASEAN region, cover automatically extends to all other ASEAN countries – meaning you can travel to Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines within the term of your policy and have the same cover extend to all those locations. And because Asia is the home of the Pacific Cross Group the same level of support is available to you across the ASEAN region.

You can get a free, no obligation quote from any Thai registered Insurance Broker or directly from us at the link Inbound Travel Insurance Quote. And you can read and download a brochure with the premium rates and options along with an application form at the link Travel Insurance Downloads. Regardless of the outcome, this provides you with another option that has some very definite points in its favour.

We would be delighted to help if we can, but regardless we welcome you to Thailand and hope you have a great trip here!
