Canadian on a 30 day tourist visa

Featured Replies

Hi,

I’m a 64 year old Canadian in Thailand on a 30 tourist visa. It’s about to expire. I need to stay hear another 21 days. Can I go to Immigration and get an extension or do I have to do a Visa run? If so, then what’s the best one to take?

DAB

You can get a a 30 day extension of the 30 day visa exempt entry (it is not a tourist visa) you have at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

Take a copy of your passport and departure card, together with a pass photo with you.

To immigration for a 30 day extension.

At an immigration office you don't need to do a border run.

You will need a completed TM7 application form with a 4cm X 6cm photo attached, copies of your passport photo page, entry/permit to stay stamp and TM6 departure card. Download and print form 2 sided. http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/download/pdf/tm7.pdf

I need to clarify.... I got my visa on arrival at the airport. It’s for a 30day stay... not sure now what it’s called “tourist”?

DAB

It is called visa waiver or visa exempt.

It is called visa waiver or visa exempt.

Not a visa waiver. It is called officially "visa exempt".

You should be able to use a local visa company and they will go stand in line for you. I have done 7 day extensions in the past. They charge a nominal service fee on top of the 1900 baht and it can be very convenient if you don't know your way around or just want to go do something else for the morning or afternoon instead of finding the local immigration office.

Hi folks!

Perhaps it is the right place to post my question I am a canadian also and here since january 9 2015 on a single entry visa due to got to visa run on march 9 2015, so i would have to leave Thailand on the 9 of April but a slight problem my return ticket is due for April 23 2015 I am here with my common law wife she is from here and we are at her family (home) for the duration I am retired and we doing good.

My question would be; how do I proceed with this situation.?

You can apply for a 30 day extension at an immigration office for the 60 day entry from your tourist visa. Then you would need to do a border run to get a 30 day entry since your are from Canada (G7 rule).
