Buddhist monk duped in lottery scam

Featured Replies

I have met some seriously devout monks, including the abbot of our local Wat. But in a religion where any man can just decide to be a monk without any training or genuinely strong religious belief you are going to get a lot of rotten apples. Personally, I like Buddhism as a philosophy, but not the way it seems to be twisted by a lot of Thais.

  • I've lost count of the many random hitchhikers I've picked up with a winning lotto ticket they are willing to sell for peanuts. Totally believable.

Hmm.. Scam yes.. Scam relying on greed. Which is typical for a scam. However, monks shouldn't even be dealing with money directly, and especially not be involved in lotteries or get-rich-quick sche

I can't get 40,000 baht out of an ATM at a time, wonder how the monk was able too.

20 000 twice the same as everybody else maybe?

Most Thais

Funny story. Reads like it was imagined by a 3 year old kid and written up by his 13 year old brother.

This is more important to be investigated by the police.

What I keep hearing and witnessing, draws me further and further away from religion.

And that does not only apply only for Buddhism but also any other religion and it's servants.

Could not agree more, just seems the monks are so dim they always get caught, but of course it can all be explained by ghosts or black magic.

There is skullduggery and greed in every religion. I live in a country where we have lots of different religions.

"The man said a religious offering might help the mother to overcome illness"

ah yes... i'll scam you now and you can scam me later...

2015 and people still believe in all that crap-o-zoid
