Malaysia, Indonesia agree to combat IS threat

BANGKOK: -- Two members of ASEAN - Malaysia and Indonesia - have agreed to cooperate and share intelligence information, besides monitoring the movements of members of the Islamic State (IS) militant group who have fought in Syria and Iraq, New Straits Times reported.

Malaysia’s Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said this cooperation to combat IS threat was important and critical because altogether, the two countries had the biggest Muslim population in the ASEAN region.

Hishammuddin said the IS threat is real. Considering the current situation in Iraq, Syria and a few other countries, it’s not impossible for the IS threat and ideology to spread in the region, he added.

He said this at a news conference in the presence of Indonesian Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu who was visiting the Malaysian Armed Forces’ Wisma Perwira in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

On the maritime border issue, Hishammuddin said the two countries agreed not to prolong the provocation and dispute that might exist and could adversely affect diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Indonesia.

more than 500 Indonesian citizens had joined the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq and Syria without the relevant authorities taking any preventive measures!

You might start by stopping your citizens from joining the IS group!
