Pha Chor - Neaby national park

Went to Pha Chor on the weekend, a 'new' national park not too far out from town, less than an hour drive. And it can be reached easily using the new Canal Road extension, a road that still sees very little traffic. A little surreal even.

(Pic is from a couple weeks ago hence the blue sky..)

Anyway you take that road to where the underpass is crossing the 1013 to Mae Wang. Then you turn right on to the 1013 for about 5 kms (3.7km) to Ban Kad where there is a fork in the road: the 1013 continues on the right, but that's where you turn left.

Pha Chor is well sign posted, but it's easy with any GPS or Google Maps too: https://goo.gl/maps/r8OxO

It's a well managed National Park (paths well marked and signposted, rubbish bins where needed, good staff, benches and salas to rest on the way, etc.). Entrance is 20 baht for adults, 10 Baht kids, 30 baht cars and 100 baht foreigners. Although all I had to do was ask to get the Thai price; no need to produce as much as a driver's license or anything else that shows I've been here a while.

It involves a 400m walk from the parking lot, the climbs all have stairs so it isn't particularly straining.

Pictures.

Pretty hazy. Guess this will be the last trip that involves some exercise for a while due to the haze this month and heat the next month or two. View in the green season should be really good though.

Paths get narrow, especially on the way out.

Some people there, but no crazy crowds.

Interesting formations all around. Looks a little like Phae Muang Phi near Phrae.

Its a nice little stop off on the way to somewhere. Its located in Mae Wang National Park, that has been around for ages but previously there was little reason for anyone to visit. It is increasingly being discovered, especially by domestic tourists and can be busy on the weekends, Couldn't believe how many people there were at 10am last Sunday, there were so many people I didn't bother taking a photo as I had decent ones from before, wish I had now. I went 18 months ago and could drive my bike along the ridge to the top of the formation, had the place to myself.

If you are on a dirt bike and follow the paved road past the Pha Chor turn off and continue to the end there is some nice riding along and through the river bed at the end and around the various trails!

  • 2 months later...

We spent a very beautiful day in Pha Chor.

There was only one couple around but they left early. So we had the cliff and the canyon only for ourselves.

In our opinion Pha Chor is one of the top three nature attractions in and around Chiang Mai.

Thanks to the posters for the valuable information.
