Thailand's weather bureau warns of tropical storms

Great news for all the thirsty farms.

=====================

Not necessarily.

Rains would be good, but heavy driving rains on a very dry ground serface can cause erosion as hard dry ground can not adsorb a hard driving rain quickly and therefore the topsoil may be eroded off before the ground can become wet enough to properly adsorb the hard driving rain.

therefore in other countries farmer prepait the soil for keeping the water !!

tHAI FARMER WAIT MEANTIME IN TEMPLE AND PRAY FOR RAIN !!

Not to say that a few may have come from better off families, but the lump sum statement is annoying.

Annoying, and clueless. It's ignorant bar stool banter put online.

I've dealt with the Met guys a few times over the years and they generally struck me as competent and serious about their work. Comments like 'Oooh, it's the tropics, of course there are tropical storms' or 'Ooh, it's the rainy season, of course there's rain' miss the point. These guys are trying to inform people whose livelihoods or even lives depend on the weather, for example farmers, mariners, aviators etc. And in general they seem to do a reasonably good job. Yes, the English is sometimes garbled, especially when it gets passed around the web second- or third-hand, so if it really bothers anyone, for heaven's sake just go to the source, in the source language: tmd.go.th

Don't mind the thunderstorms it's the inevitable power loss, which means no water or internet, that I hate. Goes on for hours sometimes. Then there's the return of power with a vengeance trying to make up for what was lost often rendering something unworkable. :angry:

Most importantly, don't forget the loss of air-con, water and internet i can do without for 10 or 12 hours but not my air-con, having said that i am amazed lately at how stable the electric has become,even out here in the sticks it rarely goes off now compared to a few years ago,then a bit of rain was enough for the electric to fail for 3 or 4 hours but now even a major storm has no effect.

Don't use air con during the day when most of the power cuts seem to happen. Where I live in Pattaya not a week goes by without a power cut. Sometimes just a second, sometimes on & off many times in a few minutes. Sometimes half voltage. But mostly half an hour to 2 hours. And this is all with new substation and cables installed just a few years ago.

In the hot season i have the air-con in the bedroom on all day and night, a nice cool lie down in the middle of the day is refreshing, heck i even have the air-con on in the bedroom at night during the cold season. I can't understand why Pattaya's electric should be so unstable,maybe too many people pulling on the mains at the same time, in the sticks here in Isaan it has become unusual if the electric goes off, then it is due to a tree falling on the power lines or some drunk driver hitting a pylon

Had a storm yesterday eve in north Khon Kaen province, more wind than wet. Sun again today.

The storm never came again, the clouds and wind built up thunder started in the distance then it just broke up. Does anyone know if it rained in kalasin today?

Sounds like me trying to have sex after an evening on the booze. The storm (me). The clouds (my breath). The wind (my think you can guess). The thunder (me huffing and puffing) . It broke up (ran out of energy). Kalasin (my bathroom) where it most definitely rained.
