Vice Admiral Taratorn Thinsuwan Employs Wife and Daughter in 4 Roles

Featured Replies

Members of the National Legislative Assembly have been asked to retroactively terminate relative-employment back to March 1st.

Vice Admiral Taratorn Thinsuwan, a member of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), has employed his wife and daughter, according to contractual documents. The employment sparked concern because the admiral’s wife has been employed for three separate roles, while his daughter has been employed for one role.

Documents released today show that the vice admiral’s wife earns 59,000 baht each month for her roles. She earns 15,000 baht for being a secretary, and the remaining 44,000 baht is split among specialist positions. His daughter also earns 20,000 baht for her role. The admiral earns 113,000 baht a month.

The released reports show that nearly 70 NLA members have employed family members at the expense of the public. The vice admiral is in the spotlight because he is the only member to employ a family member in three separate roles.

The National Reform Council has stated that there are currently no legal restrictions in place that bar NLA members from employing family members. The council also stated that an ethical decision on the matter needs to be made.

The NLA deputy president, Surachai Liangboonlertchai, has asked members to retroactively end the employment of their relatives. Setting standards for future politicians is the goal of the NLA, states Surachai. Several members have already terminated employment of relatives.

The retroactive termination will go back to March 1st.

Vice Admiral Taratorn Thinsuwan is a well-known figure and commanded the Royal Thai Navy 3. Concerns over public money spent on the employment of relatives of NLA members is a major issue for Thailand as the country tries to bolster its economy. Currently, there are no laws in place that would force Thinsuwan or other members to terminate relative employment. If termination suggestions go unanswered, future measures may be put in place to put an end to relative-employment in the NLA.

You couldn't make this up. Anyone read Animal Farm?

No shame when there's a chance to benefit so fill the boots.

As usual fine words about setting an example, ethics etc but meant for others to comply with.

The PM seems OK with this situation and practice which doesn't do much for his credibility.

Getting paid for three roles / jobs

Good to see Thais are all the same once they become politicians .... rip of the Thai people

All those who have hired family members should be fired / released immediately and barred from public office

but as this is Thailand where anything goes ... life goes on

Nepotism at its finest!

Regrettably not restricted to Thailand. There was a big case in Bavaria last year were several members of the state parliament had hired relatives at amazing salaries and benefits. And plenty of US Senators that employ relatives, too.

Despicable in any case and even more so in Thailand where the Army took over to clean up.

Someone ? needs to guard the trough a bit better

Multi skilled!

There should be no asked about it, it should be ordered to terminate their employment and pay back all salary received.

The admiral as the worst offender should also be given the DCM.

And there it is, clear-cut evidence why nepotism SHOULD be illegal. Creative accounting provides 4 incomes for the price of two people. Some might construe this as theft from government coffers or the Thai populace...unless his wife is working 24 hours a day.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Hey NACC, wake-up, you might have something to investigate here other than your vendetta against YL.

And so........all you military junta, coup, supporters again things arent all peaches and creme in your camp (pun intended). Oh yeah id be remorse in my cynicism if I didnt point out these are "yellow" people lol

Don't forget to factor in all the allowances that are not included in the basic salary and the annual bonuses and the interest-free loans and the free or heavily subsidised accommodation and the obligatory cool season jolly (I suppose since the wife holds 3 positions she could have 2 of her friends come as well) and last but not least free business class, nay first class travel on Thai Airways.

Lets see how serious Prayuth is.....I am expecting some harsh action now....

The greed and unethical behaviour of high ranking people here is dreadful, and simply adds to the embarrassment of Thailand.

He's likely a dollar millionaire having held the role of VA in the navy.........

The more things change the more they stay the same , new government to old government same same but different this is theft , plain and simple.

Typical of people who claim to be patriotic here. Leeches the lot of them

Ah well, all the reforms the PDRC screwed the country for are slowly being implemented. Lot's of people/sheep who supported Suthep and co must be feeling mighty proud to have played a small part in helping the country progress...............albeit in reverse gear.

So what's difference between then and now. Croonyism, nepotism, corruption, subisidies, shaky economy, amnesty etc etc. Was the coup worth it?

ahhhhh yes....thainess being brought to a coup. ..... who wouda thunk it?

Thats why he is vice admiral, the rest only gave their family members one lousy job. Amateurs...

I wonder why he gave his wife only 3 jobs, I would have guessed she would be good enough for 5-10 jobs simultaneously. And he himself only has 1 job? Why can't he be his own adviser, expert, and secretary also? He sometimes scribbles something on a piece of paper right? So thats another 20K at least per month.

In almost every topic it is Costas who comments first, but his absence here makes me wonder if he is still feeling well or maybe the first ray of light entered his brain.

I see Prayut getting annoyed with "busybody nosy" reporters for asking about this.

Watch out when he shows up with a basket of bananas.

If you were outside Thailand you would probably say "unbelievable" however since not, it is totally believable...definitely not acceptable.

Congratulation Costas!clap2.gifthumbsup.gifclap2.gif

Your favorite Government must be a well of wisdom with so much support from housewives and students acting as political analysts and advisors. I just wonder, when will they add their pets like famous owls of Athens and talking parrots to their brain trust.

Well... Nice milking cow while it lasted. Ha ha... No skin off me back - matey.

So....here is a bit more about cronyism not in the red camp.

"The released reports show that nearly 70 NLA members have employed family members at the expense of the public."

That's just ones with the same name -- what about cousins and other relatives with different names?

Just another outstanding example showing the current government....is just the same as the last one, but just somehow better because they are not Thaksin......

Now does anybody really think that this lot will reliquish their power via an election any time soon?
