When local news is treated as national or world news

I see a few typists get upset by news that is really local but treated as national.

Example is all the news items about suicides, regular deaths, fist fights, and localized scams. We need to be aware that this type of news is really "local news" but when it is treated as huge national matters, people can mistakenly extrapolate these minor incidents as "national news."

These extrapolations have people making conclusions about the NATION Thailand from just local stuff. If there is an item that one foreigner jumped off a high balcony in suicide, it is incorrect to conclude that Thailand, the nation, is the world's capital for suicide. If a ladyboy snatches a wallet, that is local news and an error to conclude that all of Thailand is populated exclusively of thieving ladyboys.

It is illogical to take isolated, localized incidents as general rules for the whole nation, or even the continent.

Yeah I agree. It's kind of like if IS behead 16 soldiers in a desert and it makes the news, people get the impression all IS people are naughty men and women.

Bad reporting can give a whole peoples belief a bad name.

As for the stupid IS comment by the other poster go ask them if you convert to Atheism or Christianity will they accept it

Because when over the course of a year a couple of hundred people from all corners or the world jump/get pushed off high rise buildings, get mugged by ladyboys or are killed in some other fashion. That sort of news shouldn't be made public beyond the Pattaya times. Is that want you mean ?

You forgot to mention ....the incidental .....ck up by the RTPF......this while the overwhelming majority of policeofficers perform their duties dilligently, honestly but most of all sincerely on behalve of all the inhabitants of Thailand.....to serve and protect.....yeah right........

Now whenever a cop in the US shoots someone it's world news.

Yes, all news out of Thailand should be positive, like in a children's bedtime story, otherwise it would be racist and hateful.

Oh, wait, gotta go, it just came out a car hit a highway guardrail in Texas, gotta find out what that's about...
