School dragging its feet on my renewals

Featured Replies

My extension & wp expire on the 15th -that's this Saturday. Apparently the director has been on leave so my papers are ready, but waiting to be signed. She will reportedly return on Wednesday, meaning we can hopefully go to immigration & labor and get both documents extended on Thursday or Friday at the literal last second.

In the event that I miss the deadline, what are the best options? Fly out and come back in on a 30 day tourist stamp? I realize all my documents will be worthless and I'll need to start over again by applying for a new non-imm B and new work permit. I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Is there any option that will give me a few extra days beyond the 15th, keeping my current extension & wp alive so that they can still be renewed?

Your documents would not be worthless, they could be used to obtain a new non-imm 'B' at a consulate abroad. That would be better than having to travel twice.

Unfortunately there is no option to gain few extra days. If you were to get for a 7 days extension, immigration would then not accept any further application.

By "worthless documents" I was referring to my current extension & work permit. Those two documents will become irrevocably null & void on the 16th, and I'll have no option but to start over again from square one... correct?

What do those teachers who get only 9 or 10 month contracts do during the 2 or 3 months while they're out of work - apply for brand new permits every year?

What matters with extensions and work permit is not the document in itself, that always expire, but the supporting documents that are used to obtain them - in your case the paperwork from the school where you teach.

So the work permits and extensions of stay are always "brand new", because the complete documentation is needed at every application.

Last time I renewed my work permit, I did not need to get a "brand new" one; they just stamped my existing one. Are you saying they should have given me a brand new one?

He is saying you get a new renewal stamp in your current WP not get a new WP book.

Okay that's what I thought. I wasn't sure why he put the phrase "brand new" in quotes. What I'm trying to avoid is having my current one become worthless and having to start over from the beginning with a brand new (not renewed) one.

Anyway... fingers crossed.
