My trusty old (free) huwai modem was this morning dead, I managed to get it back to life by giving it 20 mins in the freezer but after a couple of hours it died again. It might come back again but clearly its reached end of life, doubly annoying as I was going to get a fiber connection v soon.

Given I am a high demand net user, and often have automated torrenting, video streaming, all kinds of things at once, many modems I have tried just end up grinding to a halt, suffering slowdowns, or needing to be power cycled. I am really trying to increase my net stability (less manual power reset cycles) and so is there any modem modem brand out there, even at a higher cost, that is more fault tolerant, doesn't choke when faced with many simultaneous connections, doesnt over heat, and doesn't need resets every few days ?? I mean surely they cant all lockup ??

I had bad experiences with D-Link ADSL modem in the past, but that might just have been incompatibility with TT&Ts network I had then.. The TT&T engineer anyway blamed the modem and said they had constant issues with customers with D-Link modems. My d-Link switches operate just fine and are fault tolerant.

Fast suggestions welcome.. Currently tethering my phone and thats going to kill my months data, need to go shopping today.

Ohh same goes for a 16 port gigibit switch.. I would guess by the time its 16 port it will be more SOHO and less home user so a bit better fault tolerant anyway ?

I'd say the best is the ASUS DSL-AC68U or the ASUS DSL-AC68R . Cost is around 6k. My place is 600sm over 2 floors and it pumps out the wifi to every room. If I was going cheap then I've found the D-link ( 2750 I think) to be the best. I use the d-link in m place in phuket and it is far better than the TP link modem that 3bb provided.

Thanks.. I came to the Asus line also over the weekend.. Have a price check on a Asus router (which I didnt need but now like the firmware).

I am probably getting ftth in this house soon so buying an all in one with adsl in may not be the smartest move.

I'll go out on a limb and suggest a Fritz!Box 7360 (802.11n single band), 7390 (802.11n dual band) or 7490 (802.11ac, USB 3.0).

My 7390 (purchased in Australia) is the best DSL modem I've ever used. In addition to the usual features it includes PABX functionality enough to power a small office (20 VoIP numbers, POTS, fax to email, answering machine, as well as support for up to 6 DECT wireless handsets and 10 IP handsets (iPhone and Android).

In addition to ADSL, these models support VDSL2, which I've used successfully with TrueOnline's VDSL2 (the 25 megabit and above xDSL plans) and will shortly test with AIS FibreNet (which uses VDSL2 to distribute FTTB in apartment buildings).

Performance wise it's excellent, torrenting in Australia I regularly saturated a 100/40 fibre connection, with nary an issue.

Thai distributor is www.voip-thailand.com. Premium price - 8-12k baht.
